Brock Gutierrez
James Brock Gutierrez (born September 25, 1973) is a former American football center who played for nine seasons in the NFL. Early life and college career While attending Charlotte High School in Charlotte, Michigan, Gutierrez won All-State honors in football and wrestling. Attending Central Michigan University as a history major, Brock was a three-year starter at center for the Central Michigan Chippewas football team. As a junior, he led his team to the 1994 Mid-American Conference (MAC) title. He was on the All-MAC first-team as a senior in 1995. Professional career Gutierrez signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent following the 1996 NFL Draft. With five appearances off the bench, he had his first regular season game action in 1997 with the Bengals. In 1998, Gutierrez was waived on August 30, re-signed on November 4, and waived again on November 17. Center or Centre (C) is a position in gridiron football. The center is the innermost Lineman (American football), lineman of the offensive line on a football team's Offense (sports), offense. The center is also the player who passes (or "Snap (gridiron football), snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each Play from scrimmage, play. 1996 NFL Draft
The 1996 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 20–21, 1996, at the Paramount Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. No teams chose to claim any players in the supplemental draft that year. On draft day, the St. Louis Rams traded running back Jerome Bettis and a third-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second round pick for that year, as well as a fourth round pick the following year. The trade was made immediately after the Rams drafted Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips. 2005 Detroit Lions Season
The 2005 season was the Detroit Lions' 76th in the National Football League (NFL) and their 82nd since moving to Detroit and becoming the Lions. The Lions failed to improve on their 6–10 record in 2004. The Lions began their 2005 season with a 17–3 win over the rival Packers. However, the next week, the Lions were throttled, 38–6, by the Bears in Chicago. By week 10, the Lions had a 4–5 record after they had defeated the Arizona Cardinals 29–21 at home. However, the Lions lost five consecutive games following that win, and were eliminated from the playoffs with a 16–13 overtime loss to the Packers. 2002 Cincinnati Bengals Season
The 2002 Cincinnati Bengals season was the franchise's 33rd season in the National Football League, the 35th overall, and the second and final full season under head coach Dick LeBeau. With a record of 2–14, however, they were the worst team in football in 2002. The team's struggles continued as they lost their first seven contests losing by an average of 19 points in each game. The Bengals would finally garner their first victory Week 8 by soundly defeating the expansion Houston Texans on the road 38–3. The winning would not last long, however, as the Bengals lost their next six games to fall to 1–13, this lethargic result was later matched by the 2019 team, which also finished at 2–14.
