Broadgate Hospital
Broadgate Hospital was a mental health facility to the east of Walkington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. History The hospital was located on a site previously occupied by Broadgate Farm. It was designed by Charles Henry Howell using a Corridor Plan layout and opened as the East Riding County Asylum in October 1871. It became the East Riding Mental Hospital in the 1920s before joining the National Health Service as Broadgate Hospital in 1948. After the introduction of Care in the Community in the early 1980s, the hospital went into a period of decline and, once the patients had been transferred to De la Pole Hospital in Willerby, Broadgate Hospital closed in April 1989. Walkington
Walkington is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately to the south-west of the town of Beverley on the B1230 road, and Beverley Grammar School. The civil parish is formed by the village of Walkington and the hamlet of Broadgate. According to the 2011 UK census, Walkington parish had a population of 2,337, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 2,481. To the east of the village is Broadgate, the site of a former mental hospital, named Broadgate Hospital. Another part of the former Broadgate Farm estate has been developed into a complex of holiday cottages named Broadgate Farm Cottages. Charles Henry Howell
Charles Henry Howell FRIBA (c.1824 – 1905) was the principal architect of lunatic asylums in England during much of the Victorian era. Based in Lancaster Place, London he was a partner in the architects' firm Howell & Brooks. Howell designed asylums at Broadgate, near Beverley (1868–1871), Moulsford, near Wallingford (1868–1870 and 1877), Brookwood, near Woking (1862–1867), Cane Hill near Coulsdon (1883) and Middlesbrough (1893–1898). He was Consultant Architect to the Lunacy Commission and was Surveyor of Public Buildings for the County of Surrey from 1860–1893. De la Pole Hospital was a mental health facility in Willerby, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. History The hospital was located on a site previously occupied by De la Pole Farm. It was designed by Frederick Stead Brodrick and Richard George Smith in the Victorian Gothic style using a courtyard plan and opened as Kingston upon Hull Borough Asylum in December 1883. It became the Willerby Mental Hospital in the 1920s before joining the National Health Service as De la Pole Hospital in 1948. After the introduction of Care in the Community in the early 1980s, the hospital went into a period of decline and closed in July 1998. Willerby is a village and civil parishes in England, civil parish located on the western outskirts of the city of Kingston upon Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Bryant Homes was one of the larger UK housebuilders when it was acquired by Taylor Woodrow in 2001; Bryant then became the principal housebuilding operation of the enlarged group. Taylor Woodrow merged with Wimpey in 2007 and during 2010 the Bryant brand was phased out. The company was first listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1962.
