Brittain, Ohio
Brittain, Ohio was a small settlement, part of the township of Springfield east of Akron, which has now been completely integrated into Akron. It was settled by the John T. Brittain Family in 1832.(A house built by the family ca. 1874 still stands on Brittain Road). Brittain was located at the crossroads of roads from Tallmadge (north), Mogadore (east), North Springfield (south) and Middlebury (west). It is 1,066 feet above sea level. The Little Cuyahoga River ran through Brittain and was joined by Springfield lake Outlet Creek on its outskirts. Brittain was possibly a settlement area for indigenous Americans. Among other early settlers was Benjamin Hilbish, who farmed wheat from 1849, raised a family and built a home in 1869. The village was locally referred to as the ‘white grocery' owing to several grocers and clean streets. Brittain Creek
Brittain Creek is a stream in Henderson County, North Carolina, in the United States. It is a tributary of Mud Creek. The stream was named for James C. Brittain, a pioneer who settled along the creek. The name of the creek was long misspelled as Britton Creek until a descendant of James C. Brittain Dining Hall
Brittain Dining Hall is the primary dining hall of East Campus at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dedicated in name of Marion L. Brittain, it serves as the primary dining location for all Freshman Experience and Area II housing residents. It is located between Techwood Drive and Williams Street, facing Bobby Dodd Stadium to its west. History While it was partially funded by the state of Georgia, a large part of the funding for Brittain Dining Hall came from the Athletic Association and the Georgia Tech Expansion Fund. Opened in 1928, it was a joint effort of many of Tech's departments: The building cost $418,000 to construct and was designed by the architects Bush-Brown & Gailey. Brittain Dining Hall was renovated in 1964, 1999, 2002, and again in summer 2007. Leslie Speaker
The Leslie speaker is a combined amplifier and loudspeaker that projects the signal from an electric or electronic instrument and modifies the sound by rotating a baffle chamber ("drum") in front of the loudspeakers. A similar effect is provided by a rotating system of horns in front of the treble driver. It is most commonly associated with the Hammond organ, though it was later used for the electric guitar and other instruments. A typical Leslie speaker contains an amplifier, a treble horn and a bass speaker—though specific components depend upon the model. A musician controls the Leslie speaker by either an external switch or pedal that alternates between a slow and fast speed setting, known as " chorale" and " tremolo". Hettinger County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,489. Its county seat is Mott. The city of Hettinger, North Dakota, is in nearby Adams County. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on March 9, 1883, with territory partitioned from Stark County. Its government was not organized at that time. The county name was chosen by territorial legislator Erastus A. Williams, to honor his father-in-law, Mathias K. Hettinger (1810-1890), who had been a banker and public figure in Freeport, Illinois. A settlement on the Cannonball River was selected as the county seat ( Mott). The county boundaries were reduced in 1885 and 1887. The county was dissolved on November 3, 1896, but was re-created on May 24, 1901, by an action of the state supreme court.
