The event was originally contested over 220 yards and then switched to the metric conversion of 200 metres in 1971. Catherine White (swimmer)
Catherine White (born 26 June 1965) is a former British swimmer who represented Great Britain at the 1984 Olympic Games and won a silver medal for England at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. Early life White was born in Portsmouth. She was raised in Barnard Castle, County Durham, and educated at Barnard Castle School. International swimming career At the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia she represented England in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke where she finished seventh and sixth respectively. Andy Jameson
Andrew David Jameson (born 19 February 1965) is an English sports commentator and former competitive swimmer. Active as an elite swimmer in the mid to late 1980s he represented Great Britain in two consecutive Summer Olympics, the FINA World Championships, LEN European Championships, as well as England in the Commonwealth Games. At his peak between 1986 and 1988 he won the gold medal in 100 metre butterfly at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, the 1987 European Aquatics Championships and the 1987 Summer Universiade, as well as the 100 metre freestyle gold at the same Universiade. Winning the bronze medal at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships, Jameson's career in the pool culminated in winning the bronze medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics, his second and final Olympic Games. Jolanda de Rover (born 10 October 1963) is a female former backstroke swimmer from the Netherlands. Swimming career Jolanda de Rover competed at the 1980, 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics and won a gold and a bronze medal in backstroke in 1984. In 1988, she finished fifth and seventh in the 4 × 100 m medley relay and 200 m backstroke events, respectively. Swimming career Abraham represented Great Britain in the Olympics and FINA world championships, as well as England in the Commonwealth games, during the 1970s and early 1980s. Sharron Elizabeth Davies, (born 1 November 1962) is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympics and European championships and competed for England in the Commonwealth Games. Davies has attended 12 consecutive Olympic Games, competing in three games and then working in the media for the BBC Sport. She competed in three Olympic Games over three decades, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, in an international career spanning over 20 years.
