The British Swimming Championships - 100 metres freestyle winners formerly the ( Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) National Championships) are listed below. The event was originally contested over 110 yards and then switched to the metric conversion of 100 metres in 1971. In 1963 Bob McGregor of Scotland set a world record in the heats (54.4 sec) and the final (54.1 sec). Swim England is the national governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, open water swimming, and synchronised swimming in England. Malcolm Barrie Windeatt (born 5 April 1952) is a former British international swimmer who represented Great Britain at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Swimming career Born in Torquay, he moved to Manchester in his late teens due to a lack of suitable training facilities in his home town, choosing to study at the University of Manchester. Marion Beverly Lay, (born November 26, 1948) is a former competitive swimmer who represented Canada in the 1964 Summer Olympics and 1968 Summer Olympics. Swimming the anchor leg for Canada's third-place team in the women's 4x100-metre freestyle relay, she won an Olympic bronze medal, together with teammates Angela Coughlan, Marilyn Corson and Elaine Tanner.
