British Society of Criminology (BSC) is a leading international organizations aiming to further the interests and knowledge of both scholars and practitioners involved in any aspect of professional activity, teaching, research or public education related to crime, criminal behaviour and criminal justice systems in the United Kingdom and abroad. BSC is dedicated to promoting criminology and criminological research. Its official, peer-reviewed, scholarly journal is called ''Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJ)'' and is published through SAGE Publications. British Sociological Association
The British Sociological Association (BSA) is a scholarly and professional society for sociologists in the United Kingdom, and was founded in 1951. It publishes the academic journals ''Sociology'', '' Work, Employment and Society, Sociological Research Online'' and '' Cultural Sociology'' (with SAGE Publications) as well as its membership newsletter ''Network'' and a monthly eNewsletter. Formerly, the ''British Journal of Sociology'' was the BSA's official journal, but it was replaced by ''Sociology'' some years after the latter had been established. Frances Heidensohn
Frances Mary Heidensohn (born 14 July 1942) is an academic sociologist and criminologist at the London School of Economics, who is acknowledged as a pioneer in feminist criminology. Her 1968 article The Deviance of Women: A Critique and An Enquiry was the first critique of conventional criminology from a feminist perspective. Heidensohn has written on women and crime, gender and policing, and international comparative studies of crime. She has served as chair of an NHS Health Authority, a commissioner for judicial appointments and as a member of the Sentencing Advisory Panel. Career Heidensohn studied sociology and, after graduating, lectured at the London School of Economics. She later worked with the Civil Service as director of studies in social policy at the Civil Service College. Joanna Shapland
Joanna Mary Shapland (born 17 February 1950) is a British criminologist, forensic psychologist, and academic, specialising in restorative justice and victimology. Since 2013, she has been Edward Bramley Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Sheffield. Before joining Sheffield in 1988, she was a research fellow at King's College, London and the University of Oxford. She is executive editor of the '' International Review of Victimology''. Early life and education Shapland was born on 17 February 1950. She was educated at Croydon High School, an all-girls private school in London. Sandra Walklate is a British criminologist. She is the Eleanor Rathbone Chair of Sociology at the University of Liverpool and President of the British Society of Criminology. In January 2014, she became the Editor in Chief of ''The British Journal of Criminology''. Biography Walklate earned her Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Letters from Lancaster University. Upon completing her Master of Letters, Walklate taught at various institutions before accepting a position as the Eleanor Rathbone Chair of Sociology at the University of Liverpool in 2006.
