British Poultry Council
The British Poultry Council is the United Kingdom's national trade group for the Poultry, poultry meat industry, representing them in public relations, policy making and standardisation. Structure It is situated just ofSouthwark Street(A3200) near the Blue Fin Building, and just south of the Tate Modern. Members include Bernard Matthews and the Faccenda Group. The CEO has been Richard Griffiths since 2017. Scholarships program The Council offers 2 yearly 3,500 pound scholarships to Harper Adams University. In March 2016 it was announced that the council would be put in charge of the code on chicken-farming from 27 April 2016. It has produced new non-statutory guidance on how to comply with the legislation. Poultry farming is the form of animal husbandry which raises domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese to produce meat or eggs for food. Poultry – mostly chickens – are farmed in great numbers. More than 60 billion chickens are killed for consumption annually. Chickens raised for eggs are known as layers, while chickens raised for meat are called broilers. Assured Food Standards
Assured Food Standards is a United Kingdom company which licenses the Red Tractor quality mark, a product certification programme that comprises a number of farm assurance schemes for food products, animal feed and fertilizer. The scheme is subject to frequent media scrutiny because of the systematic and routine animal abuse that happens at Red Tractor assured farms. History The Red Tractor scheme was launched in 2000 by the National Farmers Union of England and Wales, with the logo originally known as the Little Red Tractor, and also the British Farm Standard. It was launched on 13 June 2000. Around the time of the launch, the NFU found in a survey that 70% of the public had no idea what type of food their local farmers tended to produce. Poultry () are domesticated birds kept by humans for their eggs, their meat or their feathers. These birds are most typically members of the superorder Galloanserae (fowl), especially the order Galliformes (which includes chickens, quails, and turkeys). Tate Modern is an art gallery located in London. Bernard Matthews
Bernard Trevor Matthews CVO CBE QSM (24 January 1930 – 25 November 2010) was the founder of Bernard Matthews Farms, a company that is best known for producing turkey meat products. Early life Bernard Trevor Matthews was born in 1930 in Brooke, Norfolk, the son of a car mechanic and his housekeeper wife. Skilled at mathematics, he won a scholarship to the City of Norwich School, but found it difficult to settle. As a result of this, he failed his exams. The headmaster refused to let Matthews' exam failure reduce the school's pass-rate and so Bernard Matthews left school with no qualifications. Career Matthews worked as a trainee livestock auctioneer at Waters & Son between 1946 and 1948. Faccenda Foods Limited (until April 2014: Faccenda Group Limited) is a privately owned UK business established in 1962 by Robin Faccenda, which supplies fresh poultry products. Harper Adams University, founded in 1901 as Harper Adams College, is a public university located close to the village of Edgmond, near Newport, in Shropshire, England.
