British Columbia University Act
The University Act was enacted by the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to establish degree-granting universities for British Columbia. The first University Act was passed in 1890, which act continues in force and defines the first Convocation of The University of British Columbia. A subsequent Act was passed in 1908 (in conjunction with the University Endowment Act of 1907). Under this new statute, the governance of the University of British Columbia was clarified. The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia is the deliberative assembly of the Parliament of British Columbia, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The Legislative Assembly meets in Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria. Members are elected from List of British Columbia provincial electoral districts, provincial ridings and are referred to as Member of the Legislative Assembly, members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Bills passed by the legislature are given royal assent by the Monarchy of Canada, Canadian monarch, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public university, public research university with campuses near Vancouver and in Kelowna, British Columbia.
