British Citizen Awards
The British Citizen Award (BCA) is a recognition programme (The People's Honours) which is held bi-annually in the United Kingdom for individuals doing extraordinary work in their local community. The People's Honours was founded in September 2012. The medal presentation takes place in January and July each year at the Palace of Westminster hosted by The Rt. Hon. Lord Dholakia. In order to honour young people who are aged 18 and under who are also doing extraordinary work in their community, The British Citizen Youth Award was launched. The award ceremony for the BCyA also takes place at The Palace of Westminster annually in October each year. He took his first job as Medical Laboratory Technician at Southlands Hospital in Shoreham-by-Sea. Political career He became active in the Liberal party and was elected to Brighton Borough Council between 1961 and 1964. From 1976 he served as member of the Commission for Racial Equality and has been involved in the Sussex Police Authority, Police Complaints Authority and Howard League for Penal Reform. Dame Mary Lesley Perkins, (born 14 February 1944) is an English billionaire who is the co-founder of Specsavers, the British retail optometry chain. Together with her husband, co-founder and chairman Doug Perkins, Dame Mary has three children, all of whom work for Specsavers, and are eventually expected to take over the privately-owned company. Max Levitas
Max Samuel Levitas (1 June 1915 – 2 November 2018) was an Irish communist activist and antifascist fighter, prominent in the East End of London for many years. Levitas was born in the Portobello area of Dublin, where he attended St Peters' School, a son of two Yiddish-speaking Jews fleeing pogroms in Imperial Russia: Lithuanian-born Harry and Latvian-born Leah. Harry was prominent in the Amalgamated Jewish Tailors', Machinists' and Pressers' Union, and this led to his blacklisting by employers. As a result, in 1927, the family moved to Glasgow, and Max left education. In Glasgow, Levitas became interested in communism, and when he was sixteen, he joined the Young Communist League. Ann-Marie Wilson is a British psychologist and anti-FGM activist. She founded 28 Too Many, a UK-based organisation that aims to eradicate female genital mutilation. She also speaks out against violence against women. FGM Wilson first came across FGM (female genital mutilation) while working in a refugee camp in Sudan in 2005.
