British Army Rugby League
The British Army Rugby League team is the official rugby league team representing the British Army. The team was founded in 1994 when the Army first recognised rugby league as an official sport and lifted a ban on it. The new team was able to play in the Challenge Cup. The team play their home matches at Aldershot Military Stadium in Aldershot, Hampshire. An Army women's team was set up in 2008. History Historically, rugby league had been banned in the British Armed Forces due to the strength of rugby union and the Rugby Football Union's demands that anyone playing rugby league would be banned from playing rugby union. During the Second World War, the Northern Command Sports Board (NCSB) held sympathy towards Northern soldiers who wished to play rugby league. Aldershot Military Stadium
Aldershot Military Stadium is a sports complex in Aldershot, England comprising a combined football and athletics stadium and a smaller adjoined rugby stadium. It is the home ground of the British Army's football and rugby teams, Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletic Club and the Army Athletics Association. Location The stadia are located to the north of Aldershot just off the A325, the main road to Farnborough. It is sited in the Military Town, adjoining all the military buildings including married quarters and barracks. The 2000 Challenge Cup (officially known as the 2000 Silk Cut Challenge Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby league football tournament which began its preliminary stages in December 1999 and ended with the final on 29 April 2000. 2023 RFL Women's Super League South
The 2023 Rugby Football League Women's Super League South was the third season of the Women's Super League South rugby league competition composed of teams from the south of England and Wales. On 31 January 2023 the Rugby Football League (RFL) announced a new pyramid for the women's game from 2024 meaning that 2023 would be the final season of the Super League South before becoming integrated into this new structure as a tier 2 competition. The opening match of the season, Thurrock T-Birds 8–56 Army RL, was played on 27 May. Defending champions Cardiff Demons won all five of their matches to top the league and defeated Bedford 72–8 in the semi-final. The 2021 Rugby Football League Women's Super League South (known as the Betfred Women's Super League South due to sponsorship) was the inaugural season of the Women's Super League South rugby league competition composed of teams from the south of England and Wales. York Valkyrie
The York Valkyrie are the women's rugby league team of York RLFC (known as York City Knights from 2002 to 2022) based in York, England. The Valkyrie, who were established in 2016 as the York City Knights Ladies, compete in the Women's Super League and play their home games at York Community Stadium which is also home to the York RLFC men's team, the York Knights, and football club, York City F.C. The Women's Challenge Cup is a rugby league knockout competition organised by the Rugby Football League. The competition started in 2012. History 2012–2016: Foundations The Women's Challenge Cup was set up in 2012 to run alongside the men's competition to give women's rugby teams more competitive games and to give the sport a bigger profile by attaching it to the Challenge Cup. Most teams in the first few years were community clubs and had no links to professional men's clubs. The 2021 Challenge Cup, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2021 Betfred Challenge Cup, was the 120th edition of the Challenge Cup, the main rugby league knockout tournament in British rugby league run by the Rugby Football League (RFL). This year's competition will be contested between only the professional clubs. The competition was won by St Helens who beat Castleford 26–12 at Wembley Stadium on 17 July 2021. Leeds Rhinos were the defending champions, after defeating Salford Red Devils 17–16 in the 2020 final. However, they were eliminated in round 3, after losing 18–24 to St Helens.
