British Academy Television Award For Best Supporting Actor
The British Academy Television Awards are given out by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA). They are informally known as the BAFTA TV Awards. They have been awarded since 1954. From 1968-1997, the BAFTA TV Awards and the BAFTA Film Awards were presented in one joint ceremony. Since 1998, there have been two separate ceremonies. The film awards are held in February, two weeks ahead of the Academy Awards (Oscars) in America, while the Television awards are held in late May. The BAFTA TV Award is the UK equivalent to the Emmy Award in the United States. The awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress were first presented at the 2010 ceremony. The BAFTA TV Awards, or British Academy Television Awards are presented in an annual award show hosted by the BAFTA. They have been awarded annually since 1955. Background The first-ever Awards, given in 1955, consisted of six categories. Until 1958, they were awarded by the Guild of Television Producers and Directors. From 1958 onwards, after the Guild had merged with the British Film Academy, the organisation was known as the Society of Film and Television Arts. In 1976, this became the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. From 1968 until 1997, the BAFTA Film and Television awards were presented in one joint ceremony known simply as the BAFTA Awards, but in order to streamline the ceremonies from 1998 onwards they were split in two. ''Mo'' is a 2010 TV film about the later life and career of the British Labour Party politician Mo Mowlam, written by Neil McKay and directed by Philip Martin. Synopsis ''Mo'' stars Julie Walters as Mo Mowlam, the controversial but popular Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Early advertisements for the film showed a scene in which Mowlam removes her wig during a meeting with Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness. Gary Stevenson (born 30 November 1957), better known as Gary Lewis, is a Scottish actor. ''Small Island'' is a two-part 2009 BBC One television drama adapted from the 2004 novel of the same title by Andrea Levy. Thomas Anthony Hollander (; born 25 August 1967) is an English actor.
