''British-Islamic Identity: Third-generation Bangladeshis from East London'' is a 2015 book written by Aminul Hoque. Overview The book shows how six British-born Muslim teenagers have created their own "British-Islamic identity", with stories charting their life experiences. The interviewees are all third-generation Bangladeshis living in Tower Hamlets, the London borough that is home to the largest concentration of Bangladeshis outside Bangladesh. Aminul Hoque (writer)
Aminul Hoque, Order of the British Empire, MBE ( bn, আমিনুল হক) is a Bangladeshi-born British lecturer and writer. Early life Hoque was born to a Bengali Muslim family in the village of Bagir Ghat in Golapganj Upazila, Sylhet District, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Hoque's father had been living and working in Great Britain, Britain since the early 1960s so the rest of his family joined him in 1980. Hoque grew up in a predominantly British Bangladeshi, Bangladeshi neighbourhood in London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Tower Hamlets. His early memories were of extreme poverty, overcrowding and experiencing racism. Hoque graduated from the University of Sussex. He completed two degrees and a PhD. Career Since October 2008, Hoque has been a lecturer in the Department of Educational Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London, Goldsmiths, and a visiting lecturer at London Metropolitan University. Islamic terrorism (also known as Islamist terrorism or radical Islamic terrorism) refers to terrorist acts with religious motivations carried out by fundamentalist militant Islamists and Islamic extremists. Incidents and fatalities from Islamic terrorism have been concentrated in eight Muslim-majority countries (Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Syria), while four Islamic extremist groups (Islamic State, Boko Haram, the Taliban, and al-Qaeda) were responsible for 74% of all deaths from terrorism in 2015. The East End of London, often referred to within the London area simply as the East End, is the historic core of wider East London, east of the Roman and medieval walls of the City of London and north of the River Thames. It does not have universally accepted boundaries to the north and east, though the River Lea is sometimes seen as the eastern boundary.
