The Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre (BICOM) is a UK-based organisation which acts to promote awareness of Israel and the Middle East in the United Kingdom. BICOM publishes materials such as briefings and a journal, ''Fathom'', covering the history of Israel, history, economy of Israel, economy, culture of Israel, culture and politics of Israel, List of Middle East peace proposals, Middle East peace plans, terrorism in the Middle East, UK-Israel relations and foreign policy. The ''Jewish Telegraph'' is a British Jewish newspaper. It was founded in December 1950 by Frank and Vivienne Harris, the parents of the current editor, Paul Harris. Founding Frank and Vivienne Harris founded the newspaper in their dining room in Salford in December 1950. Frank Harris was a London freelance journalist who, on his arrival in Manchester, noticed that its only Jewish newspaper was a freesheet. He determined to establish a paid for Jewish weekly. Expansion Vivienne Harris oversaw the newspaper's expansion from 1950 to 2011. She established editions in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Glasgow. Alan Johnson (political Theorist)
Alan Johnson is a British political theorist and activist. He is a senior research fellow at the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre. Previously he was Professor of Democratic Theory and Practice at Edge Hill University. Early life Johnson was born in North Shields and developed as a socialist in 1979 as a volunteer at the Marxist bookshop Days of Hope in Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1984, Johnson helped found the Merseyside Museum of Labour History (later the Museum of Liverpool Life). Career From 1991 to 2011 Johnson was an academic at Edge Hill University in the Social Sciences. He became a reader in 2001 and professor of democratic theory and practice in 2007.
