Bristol Novices' Hurdle
The Bristol Novices' Hurdle is a Grade 2 National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles (2 miles 7 furlongs and 213 yards, or 4,822 metres), and during its running there are twelve hurdles to be jumped. The race is for novice hurdlers, and it is scheduled to take place each year in December. The event was extended from 2 miles and 4½ furlongs to its present distance in 1994, and at the same time it was given Grade 2 status. It has been sponsored by the vegetable growing company Albert Bartlett since 2007. In horse racing in the United Kingdom, France and Republic of Ireland, National Hunt racing requires horses to jump fences and ditches. National Hunt racing in the UK is informally known as "jumps" and is divided into two major distinct branches: hurdles and steeplechases. Alongside these there are "bumpers", which are National Hunt flat races. In a hurdles race, the horses jump over obstacles called hurdles; in a steeplechase the horses jump over a variety of obstacles that can include plain fences, water jump or an open ditch. In the UK the biggest National Hunt events of the year are generally considered to be the Grand National and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. David Nicholson (horse Racing)
David Nicholson (19 March 1939 – 27 August 2006) was a British National Hunt jockey and trainer. He was British jump racing Champion Trainer in the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons. Family and early life Nicholson was born at Epsom in 1939. His father Frenchie Nicholson, was also a successful jockey and National Hunt trainer. Nicholson's mother, Diana, was the great-granddaughter of William Holman, who trained three Grand National winners. He went to Haileybury College but was mainly educated for a horse racing career in his father's stable. As a young lad Nicholson was nicknamed 'The Duke' by other stable staff because of his manner and his inability to carry out menial work at the stable due to asthma and allergies. Ballycassidy (horse)
Ballycassidy () is a small village and townland (of 83 acres) in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, 6.5 km north of Enniskillen on the eastern shore of Lower Lough Erne. It is situated in the civil parish of Trory and the historic barony of Tirkennedy. In the 2001 Census it had (with Laragh and Trory) a population of 315 people. It is situated within Fermanagh and Omagh district. Ballycassidy is a small rural community, consisting mainly of scattered homes, the Balcas Sawmill and rich farm land along the Ballycassidy River. Tim Easterby
Tim Easterby (born 13 September 1961) is a British racehorse trainer based in North Yorkshire. Easterby took over the Habton Grange stables in North Yorkshire from his father, Peter Easterby, in February 1996. He has trained a Classic winner, Bollin Eric, in the 2002 St Leger Stakes at Doncaster and had Group 1 wins with Pipalong, Fayr Jag, Somnus and Winter Power. His father trained Sea Pigeon, the dual Champion Hurdle winner, who also landed two Chester Cups and, at the age of nine, defied top-weight of to win the 1979 Ebor Handicap at York. Nigel Twiston-Davies
Nigel Twiston-Davies (born 16 May 1957, Crickhowell) is a British racehorse trainer specialising in National Hunt racing. He is based at stables at Naunton, Gloucestershire. He began training in 1981 and sent out his first winner, Last of the Foxes, at Hereford Racecourse in 1982. He has trained over 1000 winners under National Hunt rules including two winners of the Grand National with Earth Summit in 1998 and Bindaree in 2002, and the winner of the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup with Imperial Commander. Mick Fitzgerald
Michael Fitzgerald (born 10 May 1970) is a retired Irish National Hunt jockey and current television racing pundit. Fitzgerald rode for the majority of his career in Great Britain and less often Ireland. Career as a Jockey Mick Fitzgerald's career lasted for over 15 years. After experience on the Pony racing circuit in Ireland he began riding out for Richard Lister, a local flat trainer in County Wexford, at the age of 16. This was followed by a move to the Curragh to ride out for John Hayden. Once he had left school at 18, a growth spurt led to an increase in weight forcing a switch to National Hunt racing. Fitzgerald's first National Hunt yards were in South West England with John Jenkins and Richard Tucker.
