Brisco, Cumbria
Brisco or Birksceugh is a village in the civil parish of St Cuthbert Without, in the Carlisle district, in the county of Cumbria, England. It is located a few miles south of the city of Carlisle, near Junction 42 of the M6 motorway. There is St Ninian's well in the village. In the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72 the township had a population of 323. History The name "Brisco" means "wood of the (Strathclyde) Britons", Brisco was recorded as "Brethesco" in the 1203 Pipe Rolls. The village is one of the possible sources of the surname Brisco. Brisco Baronets
The Brisco Baronetcy, of Crofton Place in the County of Cumberland, is a title in the Baronetage of Great Britain. It was created on 11 July 1782 for John Brisco, with remainder, failing male issue of his own, to his brother Horton and the heirs male of his body. Brisco had earlier served as Sheriff of Cumberland. The title descended from father to son until the death of his great-great-grandson, the fifth Baronet, in 1922. The late Baronet was succeeded by his first cousin, the sixth Baronet. He died childless and was succeeded by his first cousin, the seventh Baronet. This line of the family failed on the death of the latter's son, the eighth Baronet, in 1995. Floyd Gerald "Jerry" Brisco (born September 19, 1946) is an American retired professional wrestler. Brisco is best known for his time in the wrestling promotion WWE, where he was a backstage producer, and, during the 1990s, an on-screen character, working alongside Pat Patterson as the "stooges" for the Mr. McMahon character (portrayed by former WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon). He was most recently a WWE talent scout where he focused on exclusively recruiting amateur wrestlers into the company. Mikiah Janee Brisco (born July 14, 1996) is an American female track and field sprint (running), sprinter. She holds personal records of 10.96 seconds for the 100-meter dash and 22.59 seconds for the 200-meter dash. She also previously competed in the 100-meter hurdles, having a best of 12.85 seconds. She was a gold medallist at the 2019 IAAF World Relays and was the 60-meter dash national champion in 2020. Musgrave Brisco
Musgrave Brisco (1791 – 9 May 1854) was a British Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party politician. A former mayor of Hastings. In the 1830s, he assisted his brother, Wastel Brisco, with the development of Bohemia House in Summerfields, St Leonards-on-Sea, and was appointed High Sheriff of Sussex for 1843. Neil Anthony Brisco (born 26 January 1978) is an English former footballer. A versatile player, he was comfortable both in defence and in midfield. A former Manchester City trainee, he made his name in a six-year spell with Port Vale between 1998 and 2004, lifting the Football League Trophy in 2001. Following this he spent two years at Rochdale, also playing on loan at Northwich Victoria, before entering non-League football permanently in 2006. He then spent brief periods with Scarborough, Barrow, and Mossley. Following a couple of years with Leigh RMI, he retired from the game at Chorley in 2009, so as to concentrate on his work with the prison service. Robert Hylton Brisco, D.C. (29 December 1928 – 4 January 2004) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. Brisco was born in Victoria, British Columbia and became a chiropractor. He first attempted to enter national politics at the Kootenay West electoral district in the 1972 federal election, but was defeated. His next attempt was successful, winning the riding in the 1974 federal election, then winning re-election in the 1979. In 1976, he was the Critic for Economic and Regional Development. He lost the seat in the 1980 federal election to Lyle Kristiansen of the New Democratic Party, but regained the seat in the 1984 elections. Robert Brisco Earée (1846–1928) was an English priest and philatelist who was known for his studies of philatelic fakes and forgeries. Life A son of the Reverend William Earée, the young Robert Brisco Earée was educated at Cockermouth Grammar School, a boys' school in Cumberland. He was ordained as a priest in 1871 and was appointed as curate at Coggeshall, Essex, in the same year. He married Florence Isabella Goff, daughter of Captain A.
