Brine Leas School
Brine Leas School is an academy school in Nantwich, Cheshire, England. The school has 1,287 pupils enrolled, and has technology and language status. The school opened in 1977 as a comprehensive co-educational establishment. The first head teacher was Daphne Howard; on her retirement kyle Butler became head teacher. Frank Cliffe became the school's third head teacher in September 2007. In September 2010, the school became one of just 32 to take up academy status. In 2011, the school received a capital grant of over £1 million to improve facilities around the site. The school operates a house system, with every pupil and staff member in either "Audley" (with red theme), "Lovell" (green), or "Warwick" (yellow) - Audley being consistent winners of the ‘House Cup’ for several years as of 2010. Laura Smith (politician)
Laura Smith (born 16 March 1985) is a British Labour Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Crewe and Nantwich from 2017 to 2019. In 2017, she defeated the incumbent Conservative Edward Timpson by 48 votes, before losing her seat at the 2019 general election. In February 2020, Smith was elected to Cheshire East Council for the Crewe South ward. Early life and career Smith was raised in Crewe; her grandfather was a miner and trade unionist and her father was heavily involved with the Labour Party. Crewe and Nantwich was, from 1974 to 2009, a local government district with borough status in Cheshire, England. It had a population (2001 census) of 111,007. Blitz Kids (band)
Blitz Kids were an English alternative rock band originating from Nantwich and Crewe, Cheshire, England. History The band was formed in 2006 by original members Joe James, Jono Yates, Nic Montgomery, Billy Evanson and Eddie Hawx. The band was initially named "Rig Up Explosive", but the name was changed to Blitz Kids in 2009. The name meaning was explained to be inspired by Joe's grandfather who was in a gang who named themselves 'Blitz Kids' during the events of World War II. The band released two EPs on LAB Records, ''Scavengers'' and ''Decisions'', prior to their debut album ''Vagrants and Vagabonds''. Evanson and Hawx left the band because of personal issues in 2012.
