Brimstone (1949 Film)
''Brimstone'' is a 1949 American Trucolor Western film directed by Joseph Kane and written by Thames Williamson. The film stars Rod Cameron, Lorna Gray, Walter Brennan, Forrest Tucker, Jack Holt and Jim Davis. The film was released on August 15, 1949, by Republic Pictures. Plot Pop "Brimstone" Courteen (Walter Brennan) and his sons, Nick, Luke and Bud, run a ranch outside the town of Gunsight, and are none too happy about the recent arrival of homesteaders in the area. Determined to cut off the interlopers' supplies, the Courteens rob incoming stagecoaches and even the local bank. But things change when a U.S. marshal (Rod Cameron) arrives in town to investigate, and Bud falls in love with one of the hated homesteaders. Joseph Kane
Jasper Joseph Inman Kane (March 19, 1894, San Diego – August 25, 1975, Santa Monica, California) was an American film director, film producer, film editor and screenwriter. He is best known for his extensive directorship and focus on Western films. Biography Kane began his career as a professional cellist. In 1934 he took an interest in film directing and, starting in 1935, he co-directed serials for Mascot Pictures and Republic Pictures. He soon became Republic's top Western film director. Kane's first directorial credit was for '' The Fighting Marines'' (1935). When Mascot Pictures and several other small film companies amalgamated into Republic Pictures in 1935, Kane became staff director, remaining at the studio until it ceased production in 1958. John Thomas Lambert (April 13, 1920 – February 18, 2002) was an American character actor who specialized in playing movie tough guys and heavies. He is best known for playing the psychotic cat-loving, iron-hooked Steve "the Claw" Michel in ''Dick Tracy's Dilemma''. Trucolor Films
Trucolor was a color motion picture process used and owned by the Consolidated Film Industries division of Republic Pictures. It was introduced as a replacement for Consolidated's own Magnacolor process. Republic used Trucolor mostly for its Westerns, through the 1940s and early 1950s. The premiere Trucolor release was ''Out California Way'' (1946) and the last film photographed in the process was ''Spoilers of the Forest'' (1957). With the advent of Eastmancolor and Ansco color films, which gave better results at a cheaper price, Trucolor was abandoned, coincidentally at the same time as Republic's demise. At the time of its introduction, Trucolor was a two-color subtractive color process.
