Brigitte Fournier
Brigitte Fournier (born 14 June 1961) in Sion, is a soprano singer known in Valais in Switzerland for her skills in lyric opera. Her voice, described as a lyric soprano, is best suited to composers such as Mozart and Richard Strauss Life Training She studied at the conservatory of Bern in the class of Jakob Stämpfli, where she obtained a teaching diploma in singing in 1983. She continued her education at the Folkwang Universität of Essen in Germany. She then studied at the Lausanne Conservatory with Juliette Bise, where she obtained her first prize in virtuosity in 1987. She completed her training at the Biel Opera School and obtained her first role in 1987 as Naiade in ''Ariadne auf Naxos'' by Richard Strauss at the Théâtre municipal and at the Lausanne Opera. ''Werther'' is an opera (''drame lyrique'') in four acts by Jules Massenet to a French libretto by Édouard Blau, Paul Milliet and Georges Hartmann (who used the pseudonym Henri Grémont). ''The Love for Three Oranges'', Op. 33, also known by its French language title ' (russian: Любовь к трём апельсинам, links=no, ''Lyubov' k tryom apel'sinam''), is a satirical opera by Sergei Prokofiev. Its French libretto was based on the Italian play '' L'amore delle tre melarance'' by Carlo Gozzi. The opera premiered at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, on 30 December 1921. Composition history The opera was the result of a commission during Prokofiev's successful first visit to the United States in 1918. After well-received concerts of his works in Chicago (including his First Symphony), Prokofiev was approached by the director of the Chicago Opera Association, Cleofonte Campanini, to write an opera. Brigitte Balleys (born 18 June 1959) is a Swiss mezzo-soprano in opera and concert. Biography Born in the canton of Vaud, Brigitte Balleys studied at Sion, then at the Conservatory of Bern where she graduated from the singing class of Jakob Stämpfli and also improved her skills with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. She made her debut as a singer in 1982, on the stage of the opera and in 1985, at Fribourg-en-Brisgau. In 1987, she performed the role of Cherubino in Mozart's ''Le nozze di Figaro'', conducted by Erich Leinsdorf, then in his ''Die Zauberflöte'' at the Wiener Staatsoper. ''Lucio Silla'' (), K. 135, is an Italian opera seria in three acts composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of 16. The libretto was written by Giovanni de Gamerra, revised by Pietro Metastasio. It was first performed on 26 December 1772 at the Teatro Regio Ducale in Milan and was regarded as "a moderate success". ''The Rape of Lucrece'' (1594) is a narrative poem by William Shakespeare about the legendary Roman noblewoman Lucretia. In his previous narrative poem, '' Venus and Adonis'' (1593), Shakespeare had included a dedicatory letter to his patron, the Earl of Southampton, in which he promised to compose a "graver labour". Accordingly, ''The Rape of Lucrece'' has a serious tone throughout. The poem begins with a prose dedication addressed directly to the Earl of Southampton, which begins, "The love I dedicate to your Lordship is without end." It refers to the poem as a pamphlet, which describes the form of its original publication of 1594. The dedication is followed by "The Argument", a prose paragraph that summarizes the historical context of the poem, which begins ''in medias res''. ''L'Orfeo'' ( SV 318) (), sometimes called ''La favola d'Orfeo'' , is a late Renaissance/early Baroque ''favola in musica'', or opera, by Claudio Monteverdi, with a libretto by Alessandro Striggio. It is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus, and tells the story of his descent to Hades and his fruitless attempt to bring his dead bride Eurydice back to the living world.
