Brighton Beach Railway Station
Brighton Beach railway station is located on the Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and it opened on 21 September 1861 as Beach. It was renamed Brighton Beach on 1 January 1867. The famous Brighton Bathing Boxes are located a short walk from the station. History Brighton Beach station opened on 21 September 1861, when the railway line from North Brighton was extended. It remained a terminus until 2 September 1887, when the line was extended to Sandringham. In 1968, boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the South Road level crossing, located at the Down end of the station. The Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS) aims to foster an interest in the railways, and record and preserve many facets of railway operations. It had divisions in every state and the Australian Capital Territory, although the ACT division was wound up in 2016, along with the Victorian division in 2020. Since 1967, when each division incorporated, the state divisions have operated as separate entities. Interlocking
In railway signalling, an interlocking is an arrangement of signal apparatus that prevents conflicting movements through an arrangement of tracks such as junction (rail), junctions or crossings. Boom Barrier
A boom barrier, also known as a boom gate, is a bar, or pole pivoted to allow the boom to block vehicular or pedestrian access through a controlled point. Typically the tip of a boom gate rises in a vertical arc to a near vertical position. Boom gates are often counterweighted, so the pole is easily tipped. Boom gates are often paired either end to end, or offset appropriately to block traffic in both directions. Some boom gates also have a second arm which hangs 300 to 400 mm below the upper arm when lowered, to increase approach visibility, and which hangs on links so it lies flat with the main boom as the barrier is raised. Sandringham Railway Station
Sandringham railway station is the terminus of the suburban electrified Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Sandringham, and it opened on 2 September 1887. A signal box is located at the Up ( Flinders Street) end of the station, whilst a stabling yard is located directly opposite to the station, stabling up to four trains overnight. History Sandringham station opened on 2 September 1887, when the railway line from Brighton Beach was extended. Like the suburb itself, the station was named after Sandringham House, which was inspired by landowner and parliamentarian Charles H.
