North East Railway Line
The North East railway line is a railway line in Victoria, Australia. The line runs from Albury railway station in the border settlement of Albury–Wodonga to Southern Cross railway station on the western edge of the Melbourne central business district, serving the cities of Wangaratta and Seymour, and smaller towns in northeastern Victoria. The line is owned by VicTrack, but leased to, and maintained by, the Australian Rail Track Corporation, and forms part of the Sydney–Melbourne rail corridor. Unlike most other heavy rail lines in Victoria, the line is completely standard gauge, after works were carried out between 2008 and 2010. Mount Buffalo
Mount Buffalo is a mountain plateau of the Australian Alps and is within the Mount Buffalo National Park in Victoria, Australia. It is located approximately northeast of Melbourne. It is noted for its dramatic scenery. The summit of the highest peak of the plateau, known as The Horn, has an elevation of AHD. Mount Buffalo is managed by Parks Victoria. History Before European settlement, Mount Buffalo was visited by the Mitambuta and Taungurung people who visited to feast on Bogong moths (''Agrotis infusa''). Hamilton Hume and William Hovell were the first Europeans to visit the area and they named the mountain during their 1824 expedition, noting the mountain's resemblance to a giant, sleeping buffalo. Ovens Valley
The Ovens River, a perennial river of the north-east Murray catchment, part of the Murray-Darling basin, is located in the alpine and Hume regions of the Australian state of Victoria. Location and features Formed by the confluence of the East and West Branches of the river, the Ovens River rises in the Victorian Alps, at the settlement of Harrietville, sourced by runoff from high slopes located within the Alpine National Park and the Mount Buffalo National Park. Everton Railway Station
Everton is a closed station of the closed Bright line. Everton was the former junction station for the Yackandandah line. Only the platform remains at this station where a new shelter and toilets have been built as part of a rail trail project. Bright Railway Station
Bright railway station is the closed terminus station of the Bright line which served the town of Bright in Victoria (Australia). It opened on 17 October 1890 and closed on 30 November 1983. The former terminus retains a large brick station building and a goods shed. The station platform is still intact with a number of items of Victorian Railways rolling stock sitting on a short section of track fenced in with the station. V/Line is a statutory authority that operates regional passenger train and coach services in Victoria, Australia. It provides passenger train services on five commuter lines and eight long-distance routes from its major hub at Southern Cross railway station in Melbourne, as well as bus services across Victoria and into New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory and South Australia.
