Brickwork
Brickwork is masonry produced by a bricklayer, using bricks and mortar. Typically, rows of bricks called '' courses'' are laid on top of one another to build up a structure such as a brick wall. Bricks may be differentiated from blocks by size. For example, in the UK a brick is defined as a unit having dimensions less than and a block is defined as a unit having one or more dimensions greater than the largest possible brick. Brick is a popular medium for constructing buildings, and examples of brickwork are found through history as far back as the Bronze Age. The fired-brick faces of the ziggurat of ancient Dur-Kurigalzu in Iraq date from around 1400 BC, and the brick buildings of ancient Mohenjo-daro in Pakistan were built around 2600 BC. Much older examples of brickwork made with dried (but not fired) bricks may be found in such ancient locations as Jericho in Palestine, Çatal Höyük in Anatolia, and Mehrgarh in Pakistan. Brick House On The Pike
The Brick House on the Pike, Elerslie, Three Brothers is a historic home located at Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is a large two-story, side-passage, double-pile plan house constructed in two phases, a brick structure built by Caleb Dorsey replacing a wooden structure when he bought the property at the end of the 18th century, and the larger more formal section built by his son Charles Worthington Dorsey about 1817. Also on the property and contemporary with the main house are an ice house foundation, a stone stable or carriage house and three board-and-batten outbuildings dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The early Federal features of the house were left essentially untouched in the alterations that took place about 1907, and have remained intact. Brick House (or Brick House Cigars) is a brand of cigars handmade in Nicaragua by the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. History The Brick House brand was introduced in 1937 by Julius Caesar Newman, the founder of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. The name was selected to honor his family's residence, a brick house situated in the Hungarian countryside. Brick House, also known as Garland House or King David's Palace, is a historic home located in the village of Clifford (formerly, New Glasgow), Amherst County, Virginia. It is a two-story Federal Style, Flemish bond brick house with a projecting pavilion. It was built about 1803 by David Shepherd Garland, later a U.S. Congressman, and measures 65 feet by 44 feet. Old Brick House
Old Brick House is a historic home located at Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. It was built about 1750, and is a -story frame dwelling with brick gable ends. It sits on a raised brick basement, has a gable roof with dormers, and two interior end chimneys with molded caps. The interior features a richly carved mantel with an elaborate broken ogee pediment. It is one of the few brick-end buildings in the state. It is a member of the small group of 18th century frame houses with brick ends in northeast North Carolina; the group includes the Sutton-Newby House and the Myers-White House. Local legend held that the house was built and first occupied by the pirate Blackbeard, though in reality he had been dead since 1718. The Brick House (also known as The Brycc House) was a social center in Louisville, Kentucky that was inspired by and modeled upon ABC No Rio in New York City. The Brycc House was organized in "Do-It-Yourself" (DIY) volunteer working groups to support community based projects. The project contained groups in areas that worked with art, music, bike repairs, radio station, photography, internet access, comics, gardening, power saving practices, entrepreneurship, a lending library, a free clothing closet, and maintenance of the building. Highlands The Brycc House began as the Bardstown Road Youth Cultural Center (or BRYCC). The Brycc House was born in 1999 when Bill Allison, a candidate for Third Ward Alderman, met with the staff of Brat Magazine to discuss their concerns about city government and youth issues.
