Bribie Island North is a locality on Bribie Island in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Bribie Island North had a population of 0 people. It is the only part of Bribie Island in the Sunshine Coast Region with all the rest of the Bribie Island being part of the Moreton Bay Region. Geography As the name suggests, Bribie Island North is the northerly peninsula of Bribie Island. It lies very close to the mainland, narrowly separated by the Pumicestone Passage which forms the western border of the locality, while the eastern border is the Pacific Ocean. To the north, it tapers to a long low narrow sandspit. The locality is undeveloped land, most of it being within the Bribie Island National Park. This section of the Pumicestone Passage is very narrow and very shallow (less than ) with shifting sand and mud banks, which makes the northern sandspit highly dynamic in shape through natural processes of sand/mud buildup and erosion. Golden Beach is a coastal suburb of Caloundra in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It is located within the Caloundra urban centre directly southwest of the Caloundra CBD. In the , Golden Beach had a population of 5,575 people. Geography Golden Beach is a coastal suburb with the Pumicestone Passage forming its eastern boundary. Pumicestone Passage
Pumicestone Channel, also known as the Pumicestone Passage, is a narrow waterway between Bribie Island and the mainland in Queensland, Australia. The northern extent of the passage is at Caloundra, while at the south is Deception Bay. The waterway is a two way tidal estuary that has 11 creeks flowing into it. At each end of the passage the channels are the deepest and widest. During periods of unusually high tides and large waves, the passage is infiltrated by inflows through channels in dunes at the northern tip of Bribie Island. Bribie Island
Bribie Island is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline sheltering the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia. The others are Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island. Bribie Island is long, and at its widest. Archibald Meston believed that the name of the island came from a corruption of a mainland word for it, ''Boorabee'' meaning ''koala''. However, the correct Joondaburri name for the island is in fact ''Yarun''. Bribie Island hugs the coastline and tapers to a long spit at its most northern point near Caloundra, and is separated from the mainland by Pumicestone Passage. The Bribie Island Second World War Fortifications are heritage-listed fortifications at Woorim and Bribie Island North on Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia. They were built from 1939 to 1943 and were added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 20 July 1993. Pelican Waters is a suburb of Caloundra in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Pelican Waters had a population of 6,277 people. Bribie Island National Park
Bribie Island is an Australian national park in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, 68 kilometres (42 miles) north of Brisbane. The park covers approximately one third of Bribie Island. The tidal wetlands and areas of water around the islands are protected within the Moreton Bay Marine Park. Visitors are attracted to the park for angling, boating and the views of the nearby Glass House Mountains. This is a great place for bird watchers and lovers of spring wildflowers. The average altitude of the terrain is 10 meters. Access The beach is accessible by 4WD from Woorim on the east side of the island. Sandspit (landform)
A spit or sandspit is a deposition bar or beach landform off coasts or lake shores. It develops in places where re-entrance occurs, such as at a cove's headlands, by the process of longshore drift by longshore currents. The drift occurs due to waves meeting the beach at an oblique angle, moving sediment down the beach in a zigzag pattern. This is complemented by longshore currents, which further transport sediment through the water alongside the beach. These currents are caused by the same waves that cause the drift.
