Brian Irvine (composer)
Brian Irvine (born 2 January 1965) is a composer from Northern Ireland. His work has been characterized as avant-garde, incorporating elements of "free jazz, rock, rap, thrash, tango, lounge and contemporary classical" music.Trevor Hodgett: "Irvine, Brian", in: ''The Encyclopaedia of Music in Ireland'', ed. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Ed Bennett (composer)
Ed Bennett (born 15 March 1975) is a composer of contemporary art music. Biography Bennett was born in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland. Having studied with Brian Irvine at North Down College and with Michael Finnissy at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, Bennett states that "Striving for perfection leads me to boredom. I like to be surprised by music, staying on the outside of things and occasionally dipping in and taking what I need to try to create something new." He has also worked with Heiner Goebbels during his residency in Birmingham Conservatoire. In 2007 he was a finalist in the British Composer Awards. Beginnings Kane purchased an electric bass guitar from a local catholic priest for £50 when he was 16 years old. He then began playing in local punk and alternative bands.
