The Ellerslie Eagles are a rugby league club based in Ellerslie, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1912 and competes in Auckland Rugby League competitions. Its premier team competes in the Sharman cup. The club celebrated its centenary Queen's Birthday weekend, 2012. History 1910s - 30s The club was formed as the ''Ellerslie Wanderers'' at a meeting in April 1912 at the Ellerslie Hotel. The New Zealand national rugby league team (Māori: Tīma rīki motu Aotearoa) has represented New Zealand in rugby league since 1907. Administered by the New Zealand Rugby League, they are commonly known as the Kiwis, after the native bird of that name. The team's colours are black and white, with the dominant colour being black, and the players perform a haka before every match they play as a challenge to their opponents. The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The 1969 New Zealand rugby league season was the 62nd season of rugby league that had been played in New Zealand. International competitions New Zealand drew 1-all with Australia. New Zealand included Don Ladner, Phillip Orchard, Roy Christian, Brian Clark, Mocky Brereton, Gary Woollard, Graeme Cooksley, Oscar Danielson, captain Colin O'Neil, Doug Gailey, Bill Deacon, Bill Noonan and Tony Kriletich.
