Brewcity Bruisers
The Brewcity Bruisers is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Founded in 2005, the league played their tenth season in 2016. The Bruisers are a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization Brewcity Bruisers was founded in late 2005 by skaters "Jesse Jameson", "Butch Cassidy" and "Cris Carny Power", and was announced as a new member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association in May 2007. By 2011 the league was drawing over 3500 people to an event at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Brewcity Bruisers home league is composed of four home teams, the Crazy 8s, the Maiden Milwaukee, the Shevil Knevils, and the Rushin' Rollettes. Brewcity also has two travel teams, the All-Stars A-Team and the Battlestars B-team. North Star Roller Derby (NSRD) is a non-profit women's flat track roller derby league based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. North Star plays its home games at the Warner Coliseum, and is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In June 2017, the league announced it had updated its name from "North Star Roller Girls" to "North Star Roller Derby". North Central Region (WFTDA)
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association's North Central Region was formed in 2008 when WFTDA changed from having just two regional tournaments (East and West), to five, made up of teams from four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. Members in the central part of the Canada Region competed in the North Central Region. For 2011, the region was reduced in size, with teams in Nebraska moving to the South Central Region. WFTDA has now moved away from the Big 5 WFTDA Championships qualification tournament structure, last competed in 2012. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. The "Dust Devil" tournament was contested in front of several thousand fans in Tucson, Arizona. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. Brandywine Roller Derby (BRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2010, Brandywine is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Brandywine Roller Derby was originally known as the "Brandywine Roller Girls", but changed their name ahead of the 2016 season in order to better represent its members. Home games are played at the 422 SportsPlex in Pottstown, PA, with the largest games attracting up to 500 spectators at a time. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2 (WFTDA Division 2) was the second-highest level of play in women's flat track roller derby from 2013 through 2017. Detroit Roller Derby (DRD) is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Detroit, Michigan. The league was formed as Detroit Derby Girls in January 2005 and held their first bouts in February 2006. The Cincinnati Rollergirls is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 2005, the league currently consists of two teams which compete against teams from other leagues, and is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and structure The league was founded by Paula Estes and Christa Zielke in April 2005, wanting a new way to exercise.
