Brett Gale
Brett Gale is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. He played for Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs and North Sydney in the NSWRL competition. Background Gale is the older brother of the late Scott Gale Playing career Gale made his first grade debut in round 10 of the 1982 NSWRL season against Parramatta at Lidcombe Oval. Gale played from the bench as Wests defeated the defending premiers 19-7. Gale played another season with Western Suburbs in 1983 where they finished with the Wooden Spoon before transferring to Eastern Suburbs. Gale was limited to only four appearances with Easts as they finished second last on the table. Gale then transferred back to Western Suburbs with the club continuing to struggle on the field claiming the wooden spoon in 1987 and 1988. Western Suburbs Magpies
The Western Suburbs Magpies (legal name: Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd) are an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as they are commonly referred to, were one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. The Sydney Roosters are an Australian professional Rugby league, Rugby League Football Club based in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney) and parts of inner Sydney. The club competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition. Scott Gale (rugby League)
Scott Gale (1965-2004) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. Nicknamed "Mr Midnight" he played for the Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs, Balmain, North Sydney and the Canberra Raiders in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition and Hull F.C. in England. His sister Tarsha Gale was the first captain of NSW in Women's Rugby League. The Parramatta Eels are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta that competes in the National Rugby League. The Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club was formed in 1947, and their home ground was Parramatta Stadium (formerly Cumberland Oval). As of 2019, Parramatta's home ground stadium has been rebuilt and they now play as the co-tenants at Western Sydney Stadium, which sits on the same site that was once Parramatta Stadium. Lidcombe Oval
Lidcombe Oval is a playing field and velodrome in the Western Sydney suburb of Lidcombe. It is part of Wyatt Park. It is situated in the Western side of Church Street, on the northern side of the railway line. The outfield has a capacity of more than 20,000 spectators. The infield is used mainly for football matches of various codes. The velodrome hosts track cycling events and has been the home of Lidcombe-Auburn Cycle Club since 1947, and Neo Cycling Club since 2015. North Sydney Oval is a multi-use sporting facility in North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, owned and operated by North Sydney Council. First used as a cricket ground in 1867, it is also used for Australian rules football, rugby league, rugby union and soccer. History Development The first cricket pitch was laid on 6 December 1867, making it one of the oldest cricket grounds in Australia. A simple pavilion overlooking the cricket ground was the first structure at the oval, built in 1879 and replaced in 1909. This was replaced by another pavilion which in turn was replaced by what is now the Duncan Thompson Stand in 1929.
