Brett Chalmers
Brett Chalmers (born 23 April 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League. A highly rated player from Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League, Chalmers was first drafted to the VFL/AFL by the Richmond Football Club with the No. 103 selection in the 1989 VFL draft; however, Chalmers never took up the offer and remained in the SANFL for the next three years. After Richmond's claim to him expired, he nominated for the 1992 AFL National Draft, and was selected by the Collingwood Football Club with the No. 10 selection. However, it soon emerged that Chalmers had engaged in draft tampering: in an attempt to get to Collingwood, he had contacted most other AFL clubs and told them that he would remain in the SANFL if another club drafted him. Kyle Chalmers, (born 25 June 1998) is an Australian competitive swimmer. He is a world record holder in the short course 100 metre freestyle, 4×100 metre medley relay, and long course 4×100 metre mixed freestyle relay. He is the Oceanian and Australian record holder in the short course 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre freestyle. At the 2014 Oceania Swimming Championships, Chalmers won the Oceania title in the 50 metre butterfly and 100 metre freestyle. He was the 2016 Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in the 100 metre freestyle, winning the gold medal in world junior record time. 1989 VFL Draft
The 1989 VFL draft was the fourth annual national draft held by the Victorian Football League (since changed its name to Australian Football League) as the main method for the 14 teams to recruit players for the 1990 season. It consisted of a trading period, pre-draft selections, the main national draft and the 1990 pre-season draft and a non-compulsory 1990 mid-year draft. The minimum age for most draftees was 16 and clubs other than the West Coast Eagles were only allowed to choose one player each from Western Australia. For the non-Queensland and NSW clubs, players from those states had to be 19 to be selected, by which time the Brisbane Bears or Sydney Swans would have had three chances to recruit them.
