Brett Anderson Live In London
''Live in London'' is a live recording of Brett Anderson's 9 May 2007 concert at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. It comes on 2 CDs and was limited to 1500 copies. It was made available to concert-goers at the concert minutes after the conclusion of the set. This is the first live recording to be released from Brett's first solo album and was recorded on the last night of the tour to promote the album. As well as solo material the concert concluded with acoustic and electric versions of Suede tracks. Playing alongside Brett were current songwriting partner Fred Ball (keyboards) and former Suede member Mat Osman (bass). No track-listing comes with the album. The cover photograph is by Paul Khera. Brett Anderson
Brett Lewis Anderson (born 29 September 1967) is an English singer best known as the lead vocalist and primary lyricist of the band Suede. After Suede disbanded in 2003, he fronted The Tears with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler in 2004-2006, and released four solo albums in which he also played guitar and keyboards. Anderson is known for his distinctive wide-ranging voice, poetic lyrics, energetic and charismatic stage presence and, during Suede's early days, an androgynous appearance. Suede re-formed in 2010; they continue to record and tour. Bassist Mat Osman and Anderson are the remaining original members since the band's inception, and along with drummer Simon Gilbert have appeared on all Suede albums. ''Coming Up'' is the third album by English alternative rock band Suede, released on 2 September 1996 through Nude Records. It was the band's first album since the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler, who was replaced by Richard Oakes. Also added to the band was keyboardist (and Simon Gilbert's cousin) Neil Codling. The album was nominated for the 1997 Mercury Prize. "Beautiful Ones" is the second single from the album '' Coming Up'' (1996) by Suede, released on 14 October 1996 through Nude Records. The song became a top-ten hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number eight, and reached number one in Iceland for two weeks. Background Featuring one of new guitarist Richard Oakes' first guitar riffs, "Beautiful Ones" became one of Suede's more popular singles. The song was originally titled "Dead Leg" after bassist Mat Osman threatened to give Oakes a dead leg if he was unable to write a top ten single. "Trash" is the first single from English rock band Suede's third studio album, '' Coming Up'' (1996). Released on 29 July 1996 via Nude Records, "Trash" was the first single on which all the songs were written without guitarist Bernard Butler, since Richard Oakes had taken his place. The single is tied with " Stay Together" as the band's highest-charting single on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number three; however, it outsold the earlier single, thus making it their biggest-selling single. Outside the UK, the song topped the Finnish Singles Chart in late August and reached the top five in Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. "Can't Get Enough" is the fourth and final single released from English rock band Suede's fourth studio album, '' Head Music'' (1999). The song was released on 8 November 1999 through Nude Records. Background All of the songs on the album were produced by Suede with Michael Ade except "Can't Get Enough", which was produced by Steve Osborne. The song peaked at number 23 on the UK Singles Chart but was the first Suede single not to chart in Finland or Sweden since "New Generation" in 1995. The UK video for the song was directed by John Hillcoat, and features a couple, played by Max Beesley and Laura Fraser, trashing their apartment. An additional Australian-only version of the video was produced and directed by drummer Simon Gilbert, and is a composite of on tour B-roll footage and a live performance. "The Wild Ones" is the second single from the album ''Dog Man Star'' by English rock band Suede, released on 7 November 1994 through Nude Records. The song peaked at number 18 in the UK. Background The ballad is considered a favourite among fans and is one of their most notable songs of this period. Brett Anderson has said on numerous occasions that he regards this song as not only the high-water mark of his writing partnership with Bernard Butler, but his favourite of all Suede songs. The song is one of several notable Suede songs including " So Young" and " Stay Together", which were inspired by Anderson's ex-girlfriend Anick. "So Young" is a song by English rock band Suede, released as the fourth and final single from their self-titled debut album on 17 May 1993 through Nude Records. It charted at number 22 on the UK Singles Chart. "So Young" was a last-minute addition to the album. It was written just three months ahead of its release, in contrast to the bulk of the album, which had been demoed almost a year previously. The video for the single was directed by David Lewis and Andy Crabb, who later went on to direct a series of backdrop films for Suede as well as the live tour film ''Introducing The Band'' and features children from the Kent coastal town of Whitstable. Shepherd's Bush Empire (currently known as O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire for sponsorship reasons, and formerly known as the BBC Television Theatre) is a music venue in Shepherd's Bush, West London, run by the Academy Music Group. Mat Osman
Mathew David Osman (born 9 October 1967) is an English musician and author, best known as the bassist in the rock band Suede. Osman and singer Brett Anderson are the only remaining founding members left in Suede, and along with the drummer Simon Gilbert who appeared on any Suede albums. Biography Osman was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, but was raised mainly in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. Osman's younger brother is the presenter, author, and comedian Richard Osman. He studied at the London School of Economics where in 1989, he was awarded a BSc in Economics. Osman met future Suede lead singer Brett Anderson in Haywards Heath, and they played together in early garage bands such as The Pigs and Suave And Elegant. Osman co-wrote some of Suede's songs, including "Lost in TV", "Europe Is Our Playground", "Attitude" and " Golden Gun".
