Brethren Colleges Abroad
BCA Study Abroad (founded as Brethren College Abroad) began in 1962 as a non-profit provider of academic, language, and cultural immersion studies for undergraduates from a consortium of colleges and universities. Origins BCA was founded in 1962 by Morley J. Mays. In 2002 it moved its central office from North Manchester, Indiana, to Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania
Elizabethtown (Pennsylvania Dutch: ''Betzischteddel'') is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located southeast of Harrisburg, the state capital. Small factories existed at the turn of the 20th century when the population in 1900 was 1,861. As of the 2020 census, the population of the borough was 11,639. Elizabethtown is commonly referred to in south-central Pennsylvania as "E-Town." This nickname is also used for the local college and high school. History There are two stories about the origin of the town's name. In one version it is named after Elizabeth Reeby, wife of Michael Reeby who sold the first building lots here in about 1795. The officially accepted history is that, in 1753, Captain Barnabas Hughes acquired land and laid out a town, naming it for his wife, Elizabeth. Anita Heiss
Anita Marianne Heiss (born 1968) is an Aboriginal Australian author, poet, cultural activist and social commentator. She is an advocate for Indigenous Australian literature and literacy, through her writing for adults and children and her membership of boards and committees. Early life and education Heiss was born in Sydney in 1968, and is a member of the Wiradjuri nation of central New South Wales. Her mother, Elsie Williams, was born at Erambie Mission, Cowra in Wiradjuri country, while her father, Josef Heiss, was born in St Michael in the Lungau, Salzburg, Austria. Heiss was educated at St Clare's College, Waverley, then at the University of New South Wales, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989. Ferenc Miszlivetz
Ferenc Miszlivetz (born June 10, 1954) is a Hungarian academic. He is full professor at the University of Pannonia, and director of the Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK). His research interests include democracy, civil society, Central-European and European Studies, globalization and sustainability. Education and career Miszlivetz graduated with an M.A. from Karl Marx University of Economics, Budapest, in 1978, and obtained a PhD in 20th Century European History from ELTE, Budapest in 1983. He studied abroad at the University of Sussex in 1983-84 and at the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University as a Fellow of the MacArthur Foundation in 1989. He received his habilitation from Corvinus University of Budapest in 2004, and was acknowledged as Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in International Relations in 2005. William Schabas
William Anthony Schabas, OC (born 19 November 1950) is a Canadian academic specialising in international criminal and human rights law. He is professor of international law at Middlesex University in the United Kingdom, professor of international human law and human rights at Leiden University in the Netherlands, and an internationally respected expert on human rights law, genocide and the death penalty. Schabas has been described as "the world expert on the law of genocide and international law." He has written over 18 monographs and 200 articles. In 2009 he was elected President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars. Peace and conflict studies is a social science field that identifies and analyzes violent and nonviolent behaviours as well as the structural mechanisms attending conflicts (including social conflicts), with a view towards understanding those processes which lead to a more desirable human condition. A variation on this, peace studies (irenology), is an interdisciplinary effort aiming at the prevention, de-escalation, and solution of conflicts by peaceful means, thereby seeking "victory" for all parties involved in the conflict. A student exchange program is a program in which students from a secondary school (high school) or university study abroad at one of their institution's partner institutions. A student exchange program may involve international travel, but does not necessarily require the student to study outside their home country.
