Bret Halsey (soccer)
Bret Halsey (born June 1, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Major League Soccer club FC Cincinnati. Career Youth Halsey played high school soccer at Potomac Falls High School, where he was a Second Team All-Conference selection, as well as playing club soccer at Loudoun Soccer Club. With Loudoun, Halsey helped the under-16 boys team secure the club's first national title. College and amateur In 2018, Halsey attended the University of Virginia to play college soccer. In three seasons with the Cavaliers, Halsey made 31 appearances, scoring one goal and tallying two assists. In his sophomore and junior seasons, he was named to the ACC All-Tournament team. In 2019, Halsey also played in the NPSL for Northern Virginia United, where he made three appearances. The 2021 MLS SuperDraft was the 22nd edition of the SuperDraft conducted by Major League Soccer. The SuperDraft is held every January prior to the start of the MLS season. The 2020 SuperDraft was the first held exclusively via conference call and web streaming. The Draft was once again held virtually, and began on January 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, and consisted of three rounds (shortened from four rounds in prior years). 2023 Major League Soccer Season
The 2023 Major League Soccer season is the 28th season of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. The league will have 29 clubs following the addition of St. Louis City SC as an expansion team in the Western Conference, with Nashville SC moving back to the Eastern Conference. The regular season began on February 25, 2023, and ends on October 21; it will then be followed by the playoffs. The regular schedule was released on December 20, 2022. Preseason for the 2023 season started in January 2023 and ran into February, and the season began on February 25. The Supporters' Shield is an annual award given to the Major League Soccer team with the best regular season record, as determined by the MLS points system.
