Brendan Kibble
Brendan Kibble aka "Wig" (born 16 October 1963) is an Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is best known for his work with Australian bands The Bam Balams and Navahodads and the American bands The Texreys and The Go Wows. Musical history Kibble's first bands were the Brisbane punk rock outfits Alphabet Children (1979–80) (vocals), Flying Squad (1980–81) (vocals, guitar), Vampire Lovers (1981) (guitar) and The Horde (1982) (vocals, guitar). Bam Balams
Bam Balams were an Australian rock band which formed in 1984 and disbanded in 1992. They were led by singer-songwriter and guitarist, Brendan "Wig" Kibble (ex- Vampire Lovers). The group issued one album, ''Genuine Rock & Roll Medicine Show'' (Green Fez, 1988), an EP and six singles. Their records did well in the Australian independent charts but they did not appear on the ARIA Charts. They toured nationally but did not perform overseas. History Bam Balams were formed in Sydney in April 1984 with the line-up of Brendan "Wig" Kibble (ex- Vampire Lovers) on lead vocals and guitar; Dave Stead on guitar and backing vocals; Steve Cole on bass guitar and backing vocals; and Matt Manchester on drums, backing vocals. Navahodads
Navahodads were a roots rock band formed in 1995 by singer-songwriter and guitarist, Brendan Kibble, previously of The Bam Balams with Karl Bergersen on bass, Tim Denny on drums and Michael Maunsell on lead guitar. The Navahodads released two albums, ''Mumbo Gumbo'' (1995) and ''Madame Mojo's'' (1998). The band's sound was described as Texas R&B, swamp rock, soul, and rock.Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop by Ian McFarlane Interest generated by their first album saw them tour Spain in 1996. For the tour they released a Spanish only single, "If It's Rockin' (Don't Bother Knockin')", on the Spanish label Louie Records. The band split up in 2003 when Kibble moved to the United States. Brisbane Punk Rock
Brisbane punk rock had its main impact between 1975 and 1984 as part of the overall punk rock scene in Australia. According to rock music historian, Ian McFarlane, the Queensland capital provided "some of the most anarchistic bands" of that era whilst it was "arguably the most conservative city" in the country.McFarlane'the Fun Things'entry. Vampire Lovers (Australian Band)
The Vampire Lovers, also styled as Vampyre Lovers or Vampire Lovers, were an Australian punk rock band formed in 1982 in Brisbane, Queensland. Original band members were Axle "Axe Babe" Conrad on vocals, Brendan Kibble on guitar, Shane Cooke on bass guitar, Matt "Nasty" Le Noury on guitar and Dave Chamberlain on drums. Other members included guitarist Jason Shepherd; and drummer, Ziggy Staten. Initially the group existed from 1982 to 1984 and then reformed in 1988 to disband finally in 1990. Dubrovniks
The Dubrovniks were an Australian rock band which formed in August 1986 as The Adorable Ones. Early in 1987 they changed their name to The Dubrovniks in acknowledgement to the birthplace of two founding members, Roddy Radalj, and Boris Sujdovic. Dubrovnik is a town in Croatia. Both Radalj and fellow founder James Baker had previously founded Hoodoo Gurus (as Le Hoodoo Gurus) in 1981. All three had earlier associations in the Perth punk scene of the late 1970s. Rob Younger
Rob Younger (born Robert Kent Younger) is an Australian rock musician, vocalist, songwriter and producer. He is a founding mainstay of the punk rock group, Radio Birdman, and a pioneer of the local independent music scene. Radio Birdman, formed with Deniz Tek on guitar in November 1974, was one of the first punk rock bands ever formed in Australia, and is considered one of the most influential and crucial bands in Australian music history. Younger formed a short-term super-group, New Race, in 1981. He also formed New Christs in that year, who is still active today. Younger undertook production work, particularly with bands on the Citadel Records label. Power pop (also typeset as powerpop) is a form of pop rock based on the early music of bands such as the Who, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Byrds. Albert Sidney "Sid" Griffin (born September 18, 1955) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist-mandolinist, bandleader, and author who lives in London, England. He led the Long Ryders band in the 1980s, founded the Coal Porters group in the 1990s, has recorded several solo albums and is the author of volumes on Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons and bluegrass music. Long Ryders
The Long Ryders are an American alternative country and Paisley Underground band, principally active between 1982 and 1987, who have periodically regrouped for brief reunions (2004, 2009, 2014, 2016). In 2019 they released a new studio album – their first in 32 years – and announced a series of tour dates to follow. The Long Ryders were originally formed by several American musicians who were each multi-instrumentalists and influenced by Gram Parsons, the Byrds, country music and various punk rock groups.
