Brendan Barden
Brendan Barden was a Gaelic footballer from County Longford, Ireland. He was part of the Longford team that won a National Football League title in 1966 as captain, an O'Byrne Cup in 1965 and a Leinster Senior Football title in 1968. In 1962 he played on the winning Leinster Railway Cup team. In 1966 he was a Leinster All-Star footballer and won a Cú Chulainn Award. He won 8 Longford Senior Football Championship titles with his club Clonguish during the 1960s and 1970s. County Longford
County Longford ( gle, Contae an Longfoirt) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Leinster. It is named after the town of Longford. Longford County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 46,634 at the 2022 census. The county is based on the historic Gaelic territory of Annaly (''Anghaile''), formerly known as Teffia (''Teathbha''). Longford Senior Football Championship
The Longford Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Longford GAA among the Senior grade Gaelic football clubs in County Longford, Ireland. The winning club qualifies to represent its county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The current champions are Colmcille, winning their seventh SFC title in October 2022. The Longford Slashers club has won more titles (16) than any other club, while Clonguish holds the record for most consecutive wins (4) in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1965. The ''Longford Leader'' is a weekly newspaper, which has published in Longford, Ireland since 1897. History The Longford Leader was founded, as ''The Longford Leader and Roscommon, Leitrim and Westmeath News'', as a local newspaper with a Nationalist perspective, in 1897, by local activist and M.P., J. P. Farrell, and fellow M.P., Jasper Tully; it was one of a range of Nationalist projects on which they partnered. Farrell was the official proprietor and first editor. In 2011, he helped Longford overcome Roscommon in the National Football League Div 4 final at Croke Park. Paul Barden
Paul Barden (born 1 July 1980) is a former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Longford county team from October 1998 until February 2015 when he announced his retirement. He was the longest serving inter-county player in the country until his retirement. He won an O'Byrne Cup medal with them in 2000, he also won 2 O'Byrne Shield medals in 2006 and 2007. He was also a member of the Ireland international rules football team in 2002 and 2006. He also won a Railway Cup with Leinster in 2001 and 2002.
