The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'' in 2006, by order of first appearance. Ant Richards Anthony "Ant" Richards was the man Yvonne Jeffries (Alison Quigan) set up with her daughter Tania (Faye Smythe). Ant worked at the pharmaceutical company – Scott Spear and he was often at the hospital trialing the companies drugs. He and Tania soon got together and Ant contributed to Tania's addiction to prescription medication, supplying her with her fix. However Ant soon started to suspect Scott Spear was manufacturing faulty drugs and he and Tania began to get followed. In October 2006 Huia Samuels (Nicola Kawana) borrowed Ant's new car only for the engine to explode from a rigged bomb, killing her and her unborn child. Ant realised Scott Spear was behind the attempted murder on his life and fled. ''Shortland Street'' is a New Zealand prime-time soap opera centring on the fictitious Shortland Street Hospital, first broadcast on TVNZ 2 on 25 May 1992. It is New Zealand's longest-running drama and soap opera, being broadcast continuously for over 7,500 episodes and 30 years, and is one of the most watched television programmes in New Zealand. The show was originally screened as five half-hour episodes each week and initially receiving mixed reviews on its premiere. After its launch, it dropped in ratings and would have been cancelled if TVNZ had not ordered a year's worth of episodes in advance. TVNZ renewed the production in early 1993 when the show's rating had picked up, and it now has "long-term public enthusiasm". Today, it is one of New Zealand's highest-rated shows, frequently making AGB Nielsen Media Research's top 5 programmes of the week, achieving an average linear daily reach of 345,000 viewers (in the year up to June 2021) and is TVNZ's "most streamed show". ...

The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'' in 2011, by order of first appearance. Peter Morrison Peter Morrison was Tracey's ( Sarah Thomson) second oldest brother. He arrived in January 2011 when he learned Tracey's fiance – Scotty (Kiel McNaughton) had viciously attacked her. He encouraged her to end it with Scotty and ended up leaving back to the United Kingdom when Scotty was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Roimata Ngatai Roimata Ngatai was the young Maori nurse who fell for TK Samuels ( Benjamin Mitchell). Despite initially being a minor character, the character got a positive reception and soon was one of the central characters in the soaps 2011 feature-length episode. Jill Kingsbury Jill Kingsbury was the "Beautiful, energetic and outgoing" nurse who was best friends with Roimata Ngatai (Shavaughn Ruakere). The character was axed in late 2011. Meg Harris Meg Harris was an old nursing school friend of Alice Piper (Toni Potter). Alice tried to set Meg up with Craig Valentine (Renato Bartolomei) but ended up falling for him herself. Meg gained a job at the hospital and following the arrest of Kieran Mitchell (Adam Rickitt) for the suspicion of being Joey Henderson, The Ferndale Strangler, Meg agreed to be a police informant. Kieran discovered the ploy and just days later Meg's naked body was found, making her the second victim of the serial killer. Beth Wilson Beth Wilson was a nurse from the bureau.
