Brega (music)
Brega () is a subgenre of Brazilian popular music. However, its definition as a musical aesthetic has been somewhat difficult, because there is not a musical rhythm properly "brega". The term is widely used to refer to popular romantic music with dramatic exaggeration or ingenuity, usually dealing with topics such as declarations of love, infidelity and love delusions. Historically, the greatest singers of the genre are from northeastern and northern Brazil; three of its biggest icons historically were Waldick Soriano, Reginaldo Rossi and Falcão, the latter following a part of a tradition of humorous brega. Paulo Sérgio stood out for his dramatic and romantic music. The term is also used in a pejorative way to defines what is tacky and unfashionable. Waldick Soriano
Eurípedes Waldick Soriano (May 13, 1933 in Caetité – September 4, 2008 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian singer–songwriter, best known as a composer and singer of songs in the brega style. Biography Soriano was born in Bahia, where he lived and worked as a truck driver, prospector, and in manual labor until he was 25. He moved to São Paulo in 1959, where he began working at Rádio Nacional. His first album was issued in 1960, and his style of dramatic, sentimental songs became popular throughout Brazil. He went on to record dozens of albums and score many hits in his native country. Marcondes Falcão Maia (born September 16, 1957), better known by his stage name Falcão, is a singer-songwriter, actor, television presenter, and humorist. Recording on '' brega'' and comedy rock genres, Falcão has already released nine studio albums, and popular songs "I'm Not Dog No", "Black People Car", "Holiday Foi Muito", "Homem é Homem" and "I Love You Tonight." Usually labeled as "irreverent" by the media, Falcão's albums has sold over one million copies as of 2014. Early life Falcão was born in Pereiro, a town of Ceará, where he lived until 12 years. Tecno brega or technobrega (technotacky) is a form of music from northern Brazil, particularly Belém, Pará. Music of the genre is created primarily through remixing and reworking songs from popular music and music from the eighties. While there is a large amount of famous music used in tecno brega, the majority of it is original material (80%). Kitsch
Kitsch ( ; loanword from German) is a term applied to art and design that is perceived as naïve imitation, overly-eccentric, gratuitous, or of banal taste. The avant-garde opposed kitsch as melodramatic and superficial affiliation with the human condition and its natural standards of beauty. In the first half of the 20th century, kitsch referred to products of pop culture that lacked the depth of fine art. However, since the emergence of Pop Art in the 1950s, kitsch is sometimes re-appreciated in knowingly ironic, humorous or earnest fashion. To brand visual art as "kitsch" is often still pejorative, though not exclusively. Art deemed kitsch may be enjoyed in an entirely positive and sincere manner.
