Breda Ba.42
The Breda Ba.39, a touring and liaison aircraft designed and built in Italy, was a scaled-up version of the Breda Ba.33, achieving some success in sporting events, and distance flights. Operational history The Italian air ministry ordered 60 Ba.39s, one of which was flown on a circuit of the Mediterranean Sea by Folonari and Malinverni, starting and finishing at Turin. Paraguay One Ba.39 was registered in Paraguay as ZP-PAA in early 1940, owned by Elías Navarro and Antonio Soljancic. Powered by a Colombo S.63 engine, it was used for express flights by a company called Navarro Expreso Aéreo. In October, 1940, this plane was destroyed in an accident near São Paulo, Brazil. A monoplane is a fixed-wing aircraft configuration with a single mainplane, in contrast to a biplane or other types of multiplanes, which have multiple planes. A monoplane has inherently the highest efficiency and lowest drag of any wing configuration and is the simplest to build. The Italian Royal Air Force (''Regia Aeronautica Italiana'') was the name of the air force of the Kingdom of Italy. NACA Cowling
The NACA cowling is a type of aerodynamic fairing used to streamline radial engines installed on airplanes. It was developed by Fred Weick of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) in 1927. It was a major advance in aerodynamic drag reduction, and paid for its development and installation costs many times over due to the gains in fuel efficiency that it enabled. History and design The NACA cowling enhanced speed through drag reduction while delivering improved engine cooling. The cowling consists of a symmetric, circular airfoil that is wrapped around the engine. In a normal planar airfoil, like a wing, it is the difference in airspeed, and their associated changes in pressure, on the top and bottom of the surface that produces lift.
