''Breaker Morant: A Play in Two Acts'' is a significant Australian play written by Kenneth G. Ross, centred on the court-martial and the last days of Lieutenant Harry "Breaker" Morant (1864–1902) of the Bushveldt Carbineers (BVC), that was first performed at the Athenaeum Theatre, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on Thursday, 2 February 1978, by the Melbourne Theatre Company. Described at the time as an "interesting, though underwritten biographical study", the first performance of the play was directed and designed by John Sumner, the founding director of the Melbourne Theatre Company. John Stanton (actor)
John Stanton (born 28 October 1944) is an Australian actor. Stanton has appeared in many stage, television and film productions throughout his extensive fifty-year career. Early life Stanton was born in Brisbane, Queensland. He attended Banyo State High School for his secondary education where he was a runner and swimmer. He is the brother of ecologist Peter Stanton. Despite his obvious sporting talents, Stanton was more interested in pursuing acting as a career although he also had a desire to become a veterinarian. Stanton worked various jobs including as a school teacher and as a prawner on Moreton Bay. At the age of 24, he unsuccessfully auditioned for the National Institute of Dramatic Art. Stage Stanton moved to Melbourne to further his career. Alick Robin Walsham Harrison CBE (15 November 1900 – 18 May 1969) was an English academic, Warden of Merton College, Oxford, from 1963 until his death in 1969. Life Robin Harrison was born on 15 November 1900 in Hambledon, Surrey and was educated at Haileybury and Merton College, Oxford. He became a master at Westminster School and returned to Merton in 1930. In 1932 he married Margaret, eldest daughter of Sir David Ross. He was a nephew of Sir Francis Younghusband and a cousin of Eileen Younghusband. At the start of the Second World War he entered government service in the Ministry of Food, where he became Deputy Director of Public Relations and Private Secretary to the minister Lord Woolton. Jonathan Hardy (20 September 1940 – 30 July 2012) was a New Zealand-Australian film and television actor, writer and director, he worked also in Australia. Early career Hardy was born in New Zealand in Wellington and began his training at the New Zealand Players' Drama School.
