Brazil competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States. 147 competitors, 126 men and 21 women, took part in 82 events in 17 sports. The country set a record with 8 medals - only surpassed in 1996 with 15 , but only one medal was gold. The runner Joaquim Cruz won the men's 800 metres event with an Olympic record. This was the first and until nowadays the onliest gold medal won by Brazilians in a track event in Athletics - all the other gold medals were in field events. Brazilian football and volleyball men's teams started their success in Olympic history winning for the first time an Olympic medal. Both teams were silver medalists. Brazilian Olympic Committee
The Brazilian Olympic Committee or BOC ( pt, Comitê Olímpico do Brasil – COB) is the highest authority in Brazilian sport and the governing body of Brazilian Olympic sport. It was officially founded on June 8, 1914, but World War I caused its official activities to begin only in 1935. It was founded at the headquarters of the Brazilian Federation of Rowing Societies (''Federação Brasileira das Sociedades de Remo'') as an initiative from the Metropolitan League of Athletic Sports (''Liga Metropolitana de Esportes Atléticos''). The BOC has multiple sources of income, but its principal means of funding is its 2% share of all the profits from the Brazilian National Lottery and other games of chance. Daniel Adler (sailor)
Daniel Adler (born April 16, 1958) is a Brazilian sailor. He is Jewish. His father Harry Adler and brother Alan Adler were also sailing Olympians. Adler won a silver medal for Brazil at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles in yachting (Soling), with Torben Grael and Ronaldo Senfft. He also competed in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul (coming in 5th) where he sailed in Race 1 to 5 before being replaced by Christoph Bergman due to illness and the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona (coming in 13th). He is the brother of Olympian Alan Adler, who competed for Brazil in the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympics in the Mixed Two-Person Heavyweight Dinghy, and the son of Harry Adler, who was in the 1964 Olympics. Ademir Roque Kaefer (born 6 January 1960 in Toledo, Paraná), known as just Ademir, is a Brazilian former footballer who played as a midfielder. In his career (1978–1995) he played for SC Internacional, Toledo, Racing Club (Argentina), Matsubara, Santo André and Cruzeiro. Judo At The 1984 Summer Olympics
The Judo competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics continued the seven weight classes first used at the 1980 Games. With the open division, there were eight competitions. Japan returned to the top of the medal count, after boycotting the Moscow games. Because of the Soviet-led boycott of the Los Angeles games, several traditionally strong judo countries, including Cuba and the Soviet Union, did not participate. The Judo competition was held at California State University, Los Angeles. Austrian Peter Seisenbacher in the 86 kg class won the gold medal, as did Hitoshi Saito of Japan in the over 95 kg class, feats they would repeat in 1988, becoming the first judoka to win gold at two Olympics. Popular pro wrestler/judoka Chris Adams appeared as an advisor to the UK Judo squad, where his brother Neil Adams won a silver medal in the 78 kg class. The swimming competitions of the 1984 Summer Olympics were held at the McDonald's Olympic Swim Stadium, located on the University of Southern California (USC) campus. There were a total of 494 participants from 67 countries competing.
