Braswell Deen
Braswell Drue Deen (June 28, 1893 – November 28, 1981) was a U.S. Representative from Georgia. Life Born on a farm near Baxley, Georgia, Deen attended public and high schools and South Georgia College, McRae, Georgia. Deen was elected county school superintendent, Appling County, Georgia, November 1916-August 1918. He was graduated from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, in 1922. He served as superintendent of schools at Tennille, Georgia from 1922 to 1924. He served as president of South Georgia Junior College, McRae, Georgia from 1924 to 1927. He engaged in farming and real estate development in 1927 and 1928. He was editor and proprietor of the Alma (Georgia) Times. He also engaged in banking. Deen was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth, and Seventy-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1933 – January 3, 1939). 73rd United States Congress
The 73rd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1933, to January 3, 1935, during the first two years of Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency. Because of the newly ratified 20th Amendment, the duration of this Congress, along with the term of office of those elected to it, was shortened by days. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Fifteenth Census of the United States in 1930. The Democrats greatly increased their majority in the House, and won control of the Senate for the first time since the 65th Congress in 1917. With Franklin D. Charles Hillyer Brand
Charles Hillyer Brand (April 20, 1861 – May 17, 1933) was an American politician, businessman, jurist and lawyer. Biography Brand was born in Loganville, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens in 1881. He was admitted to the state bar in 1882. In 1894 and 1895, Brand served in the Georgia Senate and was the president ''pro tempore'' of that body. Brand was also involved in the banking industry as president and director of the Brand Banking Co. in Lawrenceville, Georgia, director of the Georgia National Bank and of the American State Bank in Athens. Brand was the solicitor general of the western district of Georgia from 1896 through 1904 and succeeded Richard B. Russell, Sr. as the judge of the state superior court in 1906. He served in that position until 1917.
