Brass Tacks Press, based in Los Angeles, has published over 50 books of poetry, prose, and comics since it was founded in 2002 by poets Robert Campbell, Pablo Capra, and Richard McDowell. A focus of Brass Tacks Press has been to publish books about the " Lower Topanga" artists community (bulldozed to make way for a state park in 2006), Malibu, and Downtown LA. Alden Marin
Alden Marin (born August 4, 1956) is a poet and painter based in Pacific Palisades, California. He has written more than twenty books, including ''Let's Face It!: Selected Poems 1974-2015''. Early life Marin's family moved to Malibu in the 1920s, becoming one of the first residents of the new Malibu Movie Colony. A sensitivity to the beauty of nature, learned while hiking and surfing in this rural suburb of Los Angeles, has been a great influence on Marin's work, as have trips taken in his youth to countries like France, Switzerland, Greece and India. He has worked as a wine distributor since the 1980s, and wrote a wine column for ''LA Style'' magazine from 1986 until 1989. Cartoonist Rube Goldberg is his great uncle. Fritjof Capra (born February 1, 1939) is an Austrian-born American physicist, systems theorist and deep ecologist. Robert Campbell (18 April 1951 – 28 May 2004) was an American artist and writer from Marshall, Texas. He studied art for two years at Stephen F. Austin State University, then moved to Los Angeles, where he showed at Gallerie Rabindra. In the 1980s and 1990s, he worked as a scenic painter on MTV music videos, film, and theater. He plays himself in the Kenny Loggins music video for " Vox Humana." Herb Bermann
Herb Bermann is an American lyricist, screenwriter, and actor. He is best known for co-writing the 1967 debut album '' Safe as Milk'' for Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. The second album ''Strictly Personal'' featured four of Bermann's songs, however he was uncredited: "Safe As Milk", "Trust Us," "Gimme Dat Harp Boy," and "Kandy Korn" A screenplay he co-wrote with Dean Stockwell became the inspiration for Neil Young's 1970 album ''After the Gold Rush''. Paul Roessler
Paul Roessler (born August 27, 1958) is an American musician and record producer. Roessler was a prominent member of the L.A. punk scene during the late 1970s and 1980s. He played keyboards in bands such as The Screamers, Twisted Roots, 45 Grave, Nervous Gender, SAUPG, Geza X and the Mommymen, Mike Watt and the Secondmen, Nina Hagen and The Deadbeats. Roessler has also released solo recordings such as "Abominable," "Curator," "The Arc," "6/12" and a rock opera entitled "Burnt Church" with Jeff Parker.
