Branko Mikša
Branko Mikša (born 13 February 1947) is a Croatian retired politician. He was Minister of Trade (1992), Minister of Tourism and Trade (1992–93), and later Mayor of Zagreb from April 1993 to March 1996, following the 1993 local election. During his tenure as mayor, the ''Importanne Center'' and a Sheraton hotel in Zagreb were built, and the Ante Starčević, Petar Preradović and King Tomislav Squares in Donji Grad were renovated. Medvedgrad, an old fortress near Sljeme, underwent renovation at that time. Croatian Football Federation
The Croatian Football Federation ( hr, Hrvatski nogometni savez, HNS) is the governing body of association football in Croatia. It was originally formed in 1912 and is based in the capital city of Zagreb. The organisation is a member of both FIFA and UEFA, and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the game of football in Croatia. The current president of HNS is Marijan Kustić. The HNS sanctions all competitive football matches in Croatia, beginning with the HNL on down to 3. NL, as well as the Croatian Cup, while low-tiered leagues are sanctioned by inter-county and county associations. It is also responsible for appointing the management of the men's, women's and youth national football teams. As of 2009, the HNS had 118,316 registered players (650 of them professionals) and a total of 1,732 registered association football and futsal clubs. ''Vjesnik'' () was a Croatian state-owned daily newspaper published in Zagreb which ceased publication in April 2012. Originally established in 1940 as a wartime illegal publication of the Communist Party of Croatia, it later built and maintained a reputation as Croatia's newspaper of record during most of its post-war history. During World War II and the Nazi-allied Independent State of Croatia regime which controlled the country, the paper served as the primary media publication of the Yugoslav Partisans movement. Medvednica
Medvednica () is a mountain in central Croatia, just north of Zagreb, and marking the southern border of the historic region of Zagorje. The highest peak, at is Sljeme. Most of the area of Medvednica is a nature park (''park prirode''), a type of preservation lesser than a national park. The area of the park is and about 63% is covered with forest. During Miocene and Pliocene, the mountain was an island within the Pannonian Sea. Etymology The name Medvednica could be translated as "bear mountain", there being other toponyms on the mountain using the Kajkavian dialect term ''medved'' ( standard Croatian "medvjed" = bear), notably Medvedgrad, a medieval castle on its southwestern edges. Medvedgrad
Medvedgrad (; Croatian for ''bear-town''; hu, Medvevár) is a medieval fortified town located on the south slopes of Medvednica mountain, approximately halfway from the Croatian capital Zagreb to the mountain top Sljeme. For defensive purposes it was built on a hill, Mali Plazur, that is a spur of the main ridge of the mountain that overlooks the city. On a clear day the castle can be seen from far away, especially the high main tower. Below the main tower of the castle is ''Oltar Domovine'' (Altar of the homeland) which is dedicated to Croatian soldiers killed in the Croatian War of Independence.
