''Branch of Lilac'' (russian: Ветка сирени) is a 2007 Russian musical drama film directed by Pavel Lungin. Plot The film tells about the great Russian composer Sergey Rachmaninov, who, according to legend, after each performance received a bouquet of white lilac from an unknown woman. He performs grueling concerts abroad. The wife cannot stand it and leaves him. And suddenly he unravels the mystery of the white lilac. Pavel Semyonovich Lungin (russian: Па́вел Семёнович Лунги́н; born 12 July 1949) is a Russian film director. He is sometimes credited as Pavel Loungine (as in the American release of ''Tycoon''). Lungin was awarded the distinction People's Artist of Russia in 2008. Life and career Born on 12 July 1949 in Moscow, Lungin is the son of the scriptwriter Semyon Lungin and linguist Lilianna Lungina. He later attended Moscow State University at the Mathematics and Applied Linguistics of the Philological Faculty, from which he graduated in 1971. In 1980 he completed the High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors (Mikhail Lvovsky's Workshop). Lungin worked primarily as a scriptwriter until given the opportunity to direct ''Taxi Blues'' at age 40. The film starred well-known musician Pyotr Mamonov. Yevgeny Eduardovich Tsyganov (russian: link=no, Евгений Эдуардович Цыганов; born 15 March 1979) is a Russian stage and film actor, director, screenwriter and composer. Early life Yevgeny Tsyganov was born in Moscow in the family of employees of the Moscow Research Institute. Yevgeny graduated from the music school in the piano performance class.
