Washington Heights is the 73rd of Chicago's 77 community areas. Located from the Loop, it is on the city's far south side. Washington Heights is considered part of the Blue Island Ridge, along with the nearby community areas of Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood, and the village of Blue Island. Brainerd is a city in Crow Wing County, Minnesota, United States. Its population was 14,395 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Crow Wing County. Brainerd straddles the Mississippi River several miles upstream from its confluence with the Crow Wing River, having been founded as a site for a railroad crossing above the confluence. Brainerd is the principal city of the Brainerd Micropolitan Area, a micropolitan area covering Cass and Crow Wing counties and with a combined population of 96,189 at the 2020 census. Brainerd International Raceway
Brainerd International Raceway is a road course, and dragstrip racing complex northwest of the city of Brainerd, Minnesota. The complex has a dragstrip, and overlapping and road courses. The complex also includes a kart track. The raceway hosts the National Hot Rod Association's Lucas Oil Nationals. It is a popular racetrack for the Trans Am Series. The spectator seating capacity of the circuit is 20,000. History Opened in July 1968 as Donnybrooke Speedway, there were no safety barriers, run-out areas, grandstands or even restrooms. Brainerd Institute was a school for African Americans in Chester, South Carolina. It was founded by the Presbyterian Church and opened in 1868. Alumni include Vivian Ayers Allen and Daniel Jackson Sanders. Originally an elementary school it served 10 grades by 1913. It expanded to include Brainerd Junior College, a teacher training program, in 1934. It closed in 1939 as competition from public schools increased. Originally established with support from the Freedmen's Bureau, the school was later sponsored by the Presbyterian Church. The only remaining building from the school's 18 acre campus is Kumler Hall. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The University of South Carolina Libraries have a collection of photographs related to the school. Brainerd School
The Brainerd Schoolhouse is a one-room schoolhouse located at 35 Brainerd Street in Mount Holly Township, Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. Built in 1759, it is the oldest building of its type in the state and now a museum. Listed as the John Brainard School, it was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1936. Listed as the Old Schoolhouse, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 26, 2008, for its significance in education. It is a contributing property to the Mount Holly Historic District. It is owned and operated by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. History and description The brick building was constructed in 1759 with vernacular Georgian architecture.
