Brainerd is an American hard rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 2002 by lead singer and bass player Daniel Dieterich. Current members include Shawn Blackler (guitar), Chad Ovshak (drums), and Jon Chvojicek (guitar). History Brainerd was formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 2002 by featuring Daniel Dieterich (bass and vocals), Matt "Knife" Porwall (guitar), Travis Kasperbauer (rhythm guitar), and Tony Leskinnen (drums), who aimed to blend the punk rock, rock, and metal music styles, while portraying true stories about "living life to its most extreme potential." Stoner Rock
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Killdozer (band)
Killdozer was an American rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1983 with members Bill Hobson, Dan Hobson and Michael Gerald. They took their name from the 1974 TV movie, directed by Jerry London, itself based on a Theodore Sturgeon short story. They released their first album, ''Intellectuals are the Shoeshine Boys of the Ruling Elite'', in the same year. The band split in 1990 but reformed in 1993, losing guitarist Bill Hobson and gaining Paul Zagoras, and continued until they split up in 1996. Their farewell tour was officially titled "Fuck You, We Quit!", and included Erik Tunison of Die Kreuzen in place of Dan Hobson on drums and Jeff Ditzenberger on additional guitar. The band released nine albums, including a post-breakup live album, ''The Last Waltz''. Crustacean Records is an independent record label in Wisconsin, United States, that was founded in 1994. History The label was founded by Chris Langkamp. Chris Langkamp is majority owner and Rory Nienajadlo is co-owner. The debut release was ''Fetus'' by Crab Shack, the band Chris Langkamp played bass with, and was cassette only. Turbojugend
Turbojugend, sometimes shortened to TJ, is the international fan club of the Norwegian deathpunk band Turbonegro. A Turbojugend member can be recognised by their specially-made denim jackets with the Turbonegro logo and "Turbojugend ame of chapter stitched on the back. The logo of Turbojugend Oslo can be found on almost every album Turbonegro has made. There are more than 2300 chapters worldwide. Origins Turbonegro guitarist Euroboy explained the club's origin: "We thought about how Kiss had the Kiss Army so we thought that Turbonegro should have our own Navy. The High Noon Saloon is a live music venue located in Madison, Wisconsin. About The venue features rock, metal, alternative, punk, alt-country, pop, indie, bluegrass, blues, and folk music, hosting national acts, smaller touring bands from around the globe, as well as local music groups. The High Noon has a country-western vibe, and is named after the western themed Gary Cooper film, '' High Noon''. History The High Noon Saloon opened on May 5, 2004, in Madison Wisconsin. Madison Media Institute (MMI) was a private for-profit media arts college in Madison, Wisconsin. Until 2017, it ran a branch location in Edina, Minnesota. The school offered associate and baccalaureate degree programs in video, music production, game design, media technology, graphic design, and web and entertainment business. MMI closed in 2018. History Madison Media Institute was established in 1969 by Ray Szmanda (more well-known regionally as "The Menards Guy" for his longtime ads for that chain) as Trans-American School of Broadcasting, with programs that prepared graduates for jobs in radio broadcasting. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical.
