Bradford Sabres
Bradford Sabres were an English ice hockey team that played in Division 2 North league of the British Universities Ice Hockey Association. They played their home games at the Bradford Ice Arena, Bradford, West Yorkshire. They were formed in 2005. Introduction The Bradford Sabres were the ice hockey team for the University of Bradford and were run and funded by the University of Bradford Union. The club began in 2005 when a number of students decided that there should be an ice hockey club at the university. The early sessions consisted of only a handful of players, almost all of whom had no previous experience playing hockey. With the sessions being run by captain Mike Currie with the help of experienced netminder Kaz Matsumoto, the players started to gain some experience and it was decided that the club would enter into the British Universities Ice Hockey Association, Division 2 North cup competition. British Universities Ice Hockey Association
The British Universities Ice Hockey Association was founded in spring term 2003 by a group of hockey players from the universities of Oxford, London, Nottingham and Newcastle. History of the BUIHA The British Universities Ice Hockey Association, or BUIHA, was formed in response to the growing number of universities with ice hockey programmes in an effort to provide students with competitive ice hockey whilst at university, no matter what their level of play. The notion to form the BUIHA first arose in Easter 2003. The idea was to simply form a divisional competition for the existing university teams. Development over the summer of 2003 led to a committee being put in place, a schedule being set and a number of teams signed up to take part in the first ever BUIHA University Cup. Pontus Ekhem
Pontus Ekhem (born June 19, 1991) is a Swedish ice hockey player, also known as 'Ponty' and also coined the phrase "It's Ponty!". He is 169 cm tall He started his career at Skåre BK in 2001 and was drafted to Nor IK for the 2002–2003 season. He made a comeback to Skåre BK for the 2004–2005 season After the 2005–2006 season he moved to The Netherlands where he joined the Hijs Hokij Wolves Under 17 team and they won the 2007 Dutch championship. In the season 2007–2008 he moved to Den Bosch Red Eagles Under 17 team and finished third in the championships after several years without any Under 17 team. With the Red Eagles team, he has had big successes in Belgium and The Netherlands. During his time in The Netherlands he has played in two different allstar teams, Dutch Alligators and the Pirates. Bradford Bulldogs are an English ice hockey team that play in the NIHL North Two (Laidler) Division of the English National Ice Hockey League. English National Ice Hockey League
The National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) is a set of professional ice hockey leagues administered by the English Ice Hockey Association. It is currently the second tier of British ice hockey, below the Elite Ice Hockey League. Formerly called the English National Ice Hockey League (ENIHL), it was renamed in 2012 to recognise the inclusion of several teams from Scotland and Wales. The English Ice Hockey Association announced a new structure of the men's senior league for the 2019/20 season, at a meeting of NIHL clubs in Warwickshire. A new ten-team division was approved to sit above the existing Division 1 in North and South, to be known as the National League. The Newcastle Wildcats are a university ice hockey team representing Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. NUIHC are a member club of the British Universities Ice Hockey Association (BUIHA) and ice three teams across all three tiers of UK university competition. The club is notable for now being the 3rd oldest amongst modern British university ice hockey programmes (having been founded in 1994) and for the fact that it was the first to introduce mixed gender participation into a full-contact university sport. The Wildcats operate a successful beginners' training programme to develop new players. Bradford is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. The University of Bradford Union (UBU) is the students' union for the University of Bradford in Bradford, England and is a registered charity. Organisation UBU, referred to in full as The University of Bradford Union of Students, is led by an executive of four full-time sabbatical officers, elected annually towards the end of the academic season, and (as of 2022/23) twelve non-sabbatical Executive Officers elected either at that same time or at the start of the academic year.
