Brad Ward
Bradley Richard Ward (born November 23, 1956) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1990 to 1995 as a New Democrat and was a junior minister in Bob Rae's government from 1993 to 1995. Background Ward was a Bell Canada employee before entering political life. Active in the labour movement, he served on the Brantford and District Labour Council and was named Labour Citizen of the Year in 1989. Municipal politics He ran for the Brantford City Council in 1982 on a Labour Council/New Democratic Party ticket and finished third in the second ward. Ward was elected to city council on his second attempt in 1985, the only successful candidate to be endorsed by the labour council. He was re-elected without opposition in 1988. Dave Neumann
David Emil Neumann (born October 5, 1941) is a politician in the Canadian province of Ontario. He was the mayor of Brantford from 1980 to 1987 and served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal from 1987 to 1990. After several years out of politics, he was elected as a city councillor for Brantford's fifth ward in the 2010 municipal election. He retired from the Brantford City Council in 2018. Early life and career Neumann was born in Montreal, Quebec, and moved with his family to a dairy farm near Waterford, Ontario, as a child. He earned a degree from McMaster University in Hamilton and worked as a secondary school teacher at Pauline Johnson Collegiate. He later coordinated adult education for his school board and was president of the Brant Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF). Floyd Laughren
Floyd Laughren (born October 3, 1935) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1971 to 1998 who represented the northern Ontario riding of Nickel Belt. He served in cabinet as Finance Minister and Deputy Premier in the government of Bob Rae. Background Laughren was born in Shawville, Quebec to parents Irvin and Erma Laughren. He is one of eight children. The family moved to a farm near Caledonia, Ontario where he grew up. He studied business at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and York University. After graduation, he worked as a manager at a Zellers store. In 1969 he was hired to teach economics at Cambrian College in Sudbury. In Westminster and other parliamentary systems, a backbencher is a member of parliament (MP) or a legislator who occupies no governmental office and is not a frontbench spokesperson in the Opposition, being instead simply a member of the " rank and file". Majority Government
A majority government is a government by one or more governing parties that hold an absolute majority of seats in a legislature. This is as opposed to a minority government, where the largest party in a legislature only has a plurality of seats. A government majority determines the balance of power.
