Bozi Boziana
Mbenzu Ngamboni Bokili (born 28 September 1951), better known as Bozi Boziana, is a Congolese singer, songwriter and bandleader. He has been in several major soukous bands, including Orchestre Bamboula, Minzoto Sangela, Zaiko Langa Langa, Isifi Lokole, Yoka Lokole, Langa Langa Stars and Choc Stars, and founded his own band, Orchestre Anti-Choc, which is considered among the most influential of the genreSee Sinnock, ''Bozi Boziana'' and also notable for introducing up to three female vocalists at any one time (as opposed to backing singers or dancers) into this band all of whom became celebrities in their own right, a tradition which continues up to today. Soukous
Soukous (from French '' secousse'', "shock, jolt, jerk") is a genre of dance music from Congo-Kinshasa and Congo-Brazzaville. It derived from Congolese rumba in the 1960s, becoming known for its fast dance rhythms and intricate guitar improvisation, and gained popularity in the 1980s in France. Although often used by journalists as a synonym for Congolese rumba, both the music and dance associated with soukous differ from more traditional rumba, especially in its higher tempo and longer dance sequences. Rigo Star
Rigobert Bamundele, best known as Rigo Star, is an appreciated soukous guitarist and composer from DR Congo, now based in Paris. He has played with several major soukous and world music acts, including Papa Wemba's Viva La Musica, Bozi Boziana's Anti-Choc, Kanda Bongo Man, Koffi Olomide, Kelele, Kékélé, and Paul Simon and Fally Ipupa in his 2009 album. His name is mostly associated with Congolese female singer M'bilia Bel, with whom he collaborated almost exclusively throughout the 1990s. Dindo Yogo
Dindo Yogo, real name Théodore Dindo Mabeli, (December 30, 1955 in Lokutu – August 23, 2000) was a Congolese singer and musician. He was also called ''La Voix Cassée'' (the Broken Voice). In 1978, Dindo Yogo joined Papa Wemba's Viva La Musica. In September 1981, with three other colleagues—guitarist Popolipo Zanguila, and fellow vocalists Djuna Djanana and "Espérant" Kisangani Djenga—Dindo Yogo left Papa Wemba's band (which was itself a sort of spin-off from Zaiko Langa Langa, or a member of the loose family of bands known as Clan Langa Langa). The four from Viva La Musica joined three musicians who had quit Zaiko Langa Langa— Evoloko Jocker, Djo Mali and Bozi Boziana—in forming the Langa Langa Stars. Supergroup (music)
A supergroup is a musical group whose members are successful as solo artists or as members of other successful groups. The term became popular in the late 1960s when members of already successful rock groups recorded albums together, after which they normally disband. Charity supergroups, in which prominent musicians perform or record together in support of a particular cause, have been common since the 1980s. The term is most common context of rock and pop music, but it has occasionally been applied to other musical genres.
