Boyukagha Mirzazade
Boyukagha Meshadi oglu Mirzazade ( az, Böyükağa Məşədi oğlu Mirzəzadə, February 21, 1921, Baku – November 3, 2007, Baku) was a prominent Azerbaijani artist, named People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1967. Biography In 1939, Boyukagha Mirzazade graduated from Baku Technical School of the Arts, where Azim Azimzade was one of his teachers. In 1940, Mirzazade entered the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts, but could not complete his education there because of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Later, Mirzazade studied at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. After graduating, he worked at a technical school of arts as a teacher and an artist. Mirzazade was the head of a department at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, and a professor of Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts. Baku (, ; az, Bakı ) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Baku Museum of Modern Art ( az, Bakı müasir incəsənət muzeyi) is a museum of modern art located in Baku, Azerbaijan. History The museum was built at the initiative of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva and opened on 20 March 2009. It was funded by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, of which the First Lady is head. The foundation has also created projects with the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles. The museum is intended as a focus for an "eco-cultural zone" conceived of by Thomas Krens, former director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, that will also include a white-sand beach, a Frank Gehry skyscraper, and a walkway that projects out over the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan National Museum of Art ( az, Azərbaycan Milli İncəsənət Muzeyi) is the biggest art museum of Azerbaijan. It was founded in 1936 in Baku and in 1943 was named after Rustam Mustafayev, a prominent Azerbaijani scenic designer and theater artist. The museum consists of two 19th century buildings standing next to each other. The museum's total collection includes over 15,000 artworks. There are over 3,000 items in 60 rooms on permanent display. About 12,000 items are kept in storage.
