Bowna, New South Wales
Bowna is a locality in the South East part of the Riverina, New South Wales, Australia. Geography Bowna is situated by road, about 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) south west of Mullengandra and 18 kilometres (11.2 miles) east of Table Top. History The former village of Bowna was inundated by the Hume Reservoir but the locality and community outside the village still exist. Bowna Post Office opened on 1 May 1869 and closed in 1994. Sports & Recreation The Bowna Football Club was established in 1911 and they played some friendly against other local towns up until 1915. The club was re-established in 1920 after World War Two. Bowna were runner's up to St. Patrick's FC in the 1921 Albury B. Grade Football Association premiership. Bowna were once again runners up in the Albury B. Greater Hume Shire Council
Greater Hume Shire is a local government area in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia. The Shire was formed in 2004 incorporating Culcairn Shire, the majority of Holbrook Shire and part of Hume Shire. The shire had an estimated population of 10,137 as at 2012. Estimated resident population (ERP) at 30 June 2012. The Shire is located adjacent to the Hume, Olympic and Riverina Highways and the Sydney–Melbourne railway. Riverina
The Riverina is an agricultural region of south-western New South Wales, Australia. Hume Reservoir
Hume Dam, formerly the Hume Weir, is a major dam across the Murray River downstream of its junction with the Mitta River in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The dam's purpose includes flood mitigation, hydro-power, irrigation, water supply and conservation. The impounded reservoir is called Lake Hume, formerly the Hume Reservoir. It is a gated concrete gravity dam with four earth embankments and twenty-nine vertical undershot gated concrete overflow spillways. Location Constructed over a 17-year period between 1919 and 1936, the Hume Dam is located approximately east of the city of Albury. Mullengandra is a village community in the south east part of the Riverina. It is situated by road, about 7 kilometres north east of Bowna and 8 kilometres south west of Woomargama. Table Top is an outer suburb of the city of Albury, New South Wales, located north of Albury and west of Bowna. At the , Table Top had a population of 1253. The area used to be part of the Greater Hume Shire but was recently integrated into the City of Albury.
