Bowler (TV Series)
''Bowler'' is a British television sitcom which originally aired on ITV in a single series of 13 episodes between 29 July and 21 October 1973. A situation-comedy, it was a spin-off from ''The Fenn Street Gang'' featuring George Baker as East End criminal Stanley Bowler. Released after serving a prison sentence, Stanley Bowler sets about trying to 'better' himself. The basic premise of the series revolves around Bowler's attempts to develop (and to project to others) a more-cultured personality, as he tries (but fails) to understand the fine arts, and to move into higher social circles. East End
The East End of London, often referred to within the London area simply as the East End, is the historic core of wider East London, east of the Roman and medieval walls of the City of London and north of the River Thames. It does not have universally accepted boundaries to the north and east, though the River Lea is sometimes seen as the eastern boundary. Parts of it may be regarded as lying within Central London (though that term too has no precise definition). The term "East of Aldgate Pump" is sometimes used as a synonym for the area. Johnnie Wade
Johnnie Wade is a retired British film and television actor. His most memorable role was playing put upon handyman 'Roger' in the ITV Yorkshire TV comedy series '' You're Only Young Twice'' between 1977 and 1981, he is one of only two members of the main cast still living, the other being Georgina Moon. Born in Bethnal Green, he was a market trader and became a singer in cabaret and with a band after winning talent contests. His first television break was in 1960s soap opera ''Compact'' as Stan Millet. He then performed in musicals including '' South Pacific'' and ''Guys and Dolls''. Christopher Benjamin (actor)
Christopher Benjamin (born 27 December 1934) is an English actor with many stage and television credits since the 1960s. His television roles include three appearances in ''Doctor Who'', portraying Sir Keith Gold in ''Inferno'' (1970), Henry Gordon Jago in '' The Talons of Weng-Chiang'' (1977) and Colonel Hugh Curbishley in ''The Unicorn and the Wasp'' (2008). He also provided the voice of Rowf in the animated film ''The Plague Dogs'' (1982). Early life Benjamin was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. Gretchen Franklin
Gretchen Franklin (7 July 1911 – 11 July 2005) was an English actress and dancer with a career in show business spanning over 70 years. She was born in Covent Garden, Central London. She played Ethel Skinner in the long-running BBC 1 soap opera ''EastEnders'' on a regular basis from 1985 until 1988. After this she returned to the show intermittently. These appearances became briefer and more widely spaced. Her final appearance was in 2000, when her character was killed off. Early life Gretchen Franklin was born into a theatrical family, the only child of her parents Gordon and Violet Franklin. Her father had a song-and-dance act, while her grandfather was a well-known music-hall entertainer at the turn of the 20th century. Her younger cousin was the comedian Clive Dunn (1920-2012). In media, a spin-off (or spinoff) is a radio program, television program, film, video game or any narrative work, derived from already existing works that focus on more details and different aspects from the original work (e.g. particular topics, characters or events). One of the earliest spin-offs of the modern media era, if not the first, happened in 1941 when the supporting character Throckmorton P.
