Bowerman Mile
The Bowerman Mile is a prestigious and historic mile race for elite middle distance runners held annually at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Along with Oslo's Dream Mile and New York's Wanamaker Mile, the Bowerman Mile is among the world's premier track mile races, and one of the few examples of a major international mile race, since the 1500m is the much more common event. The Bowerman Mile, and the Prefontaine Classic as a whole, is famous for its "Hayward Magic", where the crowds and energy of Hayward Field push competitors to fast times. Hayward Field
Hayward Field is a track and field stadium in the northwest United States, located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. It has been the home of the university's track and field teams since 1921, and was the on-campus home of the varsity football team from 1919 through 1966. Track and field competitions at the stadium are organized by the not-for-profit organization TrackTown USA. Hicham El Guerrouj ( ar, هشام الݣروج, Hishām l-Garrūj; ber, ⵀⵉⵛⴰⵎ ⴻⵍ ⴳⴻⵔⵔⵓⵊ, Hisham El Gerruj; born 14 September 1974) is a retired Moroccan middle-distance runner. El Guerrouj is the current world record holder of the outdoor 1500 metres, mile, and 2000 metres events. Yared Nuguse (born June 1, 1999) is an American middle-distance runner who specializes in the 1500 metres, 1500 meters. Cameron Myers (born 9 June 2006) is an Australian track and field athlete. In 2023, he broke the world record for the fastest mile by a sixteen year-old, and became the second youngest person in the world to ever have run a sub-four minute mile. Erik Sowinski
Erik Sowinski (born December 21, 1989) is an American middle-distance runner. He competed in the 800 metres event at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 2015 World Championships. He holds the former American indoor record in the 600 meters. Early life Sowinski was born on December 21, 1989 in Waukesha, WI to Bryan and Jane Sowinski. James Ronald Ryun (born April 29, 1947) is an American former Republican politician and Olympic track and field athlete, who at his peak was widely considered the world's top middle-distance runner. Adil Kaouch ( ar, عادل الكوش) (born 1 January 1979) is a Moroccan middle distance runner. In 1998 he won the World Junior Championships over 1500 metres. The next year won a 5000 metres gold medal at the 1999 Pan Arab Games. At the 1999 and 2001 World Championships, he took the role of setting a fast early pace to pull his teammate Hicham El Guerrouj away to victory. Kevin Sullivan (born March 20, 1974) is the men's head cross country and distance coach at University of Michigan and former middle-distance runner from Canada. He was born in Brantford, Ontario. Bernard Kipchirchir Lagat (born December 12, 1974) is a Kenyan-American middle and long-distance runner. Lagat was born in Kapsabet, Kenya. Prior to his change of domicile to the US, Lagat had an extensive competitive career representing his native country. He is the American record holder in the 1500 m and mile run indoors, as well as the 1500 m and 3000 m outdoors, and is the Kenyan record holder at 1500 m outdoors. Lagat is the second fastest 1500 m runner of all time, behind Hicham El Guerrouj.
